This week's last.fm charts Radiohead is still #1 but Kate Bush is tied for the #2 spot. →[More:]The #1 track is Venus in Furs by The Velvet Underground. You kinky bastards. Super Furry Animals is #65. I'll have to do something about that.
matildaben, I finally caved and started listening to the Arcade Fire, mainly because I liked their Talking Heads cover that you put on the (latest? one before?) mix.
I'm happy to see Kraftwerk's single version of "Autobahn" made the chart. Either mischief is playing it a lot, or more than just he and I must like it.
Hey, thanks for posting, matildaben, I hadn't gotten around to it yet. ;-)
The top tracks are interesting -- who keeps pimping for Dabenport? "Finds You Well" was tied for top track, as were a couple of obvious YSI tracks like Kate's "Waking the Witch". The cool one is "Jingle Bell Rock" by P.S. Tail, Esq.! Even so only 5 of some 50+ members listened. The rest of y'all, get off your asses!
There's a lot of neat stuff, though, like the YSIs for "Teardrop" and "Autobahn", that African Konono N°1 "Paradiso" track from MeFi, "Whisky in the Jar" and TSO's "Wizards of Winter" (the Christmas lights movie music). I do wonder which of these will have staying power, though.
All in all a very cool group of tracks, even if the majority get only 2 listeners. I'm also not a bit surprised that the Top Artists list is settling into a more conventional ranking (I am suprised that even my occasional plays of "The Scientist" don't help Coldplay onto the list). Kate Bush is a surprising favorite -- more people must be picking up her new album.
There's also a good experimental/indie angle with Guided By Voices, Devendra Banhart and Neutral Milk Hotel represented -- in addition to more mainstream indie fare like New Porn. And who's the one other fan of the Kills?
Looks like my mix only slightly influenced the charts. Mostly in the form of curiosity in Question Mark & The Mysterians? Anyway, the mix is still there to download if someone wants to grab it still. I'll probably be taking it off in a few days.
As far as mixes go, with the holidays and MeCha radio, I still haven't caught up -- I've got three mix zips on my desktop I haven't opened yet. ;-) They may yet be in the charts!
Actually I still have YSIs on my desktop from whenever that I haven't listened to more than once, i.e. enough to decide to ditch or add to the permanent collection. I put them on my desktop because otherwise they pile up even worse.
