Ask MeCha: Is there free software for recording with my built-in microphone in OS X? [More:]I want to record some songs live and dirty using the built-in microphone on my Mac to send to a friend overseas, but I can't find a built-in utility in OS X (Tiger) that does this. I have found lots of excellent but limited shareware and I don't have a credit card. Am I missing something obvious or is there a freeware utility that will allow me to record AIFF, WAV or MOV to my hard disk that I can then convert to MP3?
My Quicktime Player has a 'New Audio Recording' item under the File menu, but I'm not sure if it's a Pro-only thing. If it is, you can record with Audion, which is now free (and has a bunch of other useful features).

Audacity should be able to.

Thanks Armitage Shanks! It is a QT-Pro only thing. I had not investigated QT-Pro enough. I got it by default and there it is! Now to test. Thanks so much!

I'm pretty certain that Garageband can do this as well.

I have to get GarageBand. It looks pretty cool and has for a while. Thanks Al.

For shits and giggles:

Goodbye (3.4MB MP3)

Fumble (3.5MB MP3)
