24 November 2005

I'm thankful for Metachat. [More:]

And also, in no particular order, the time I'm able to spend with my family this week; the fact that I'm no longer at my shitty job; my general good health; my family's general good health; and my cats.

And all of you, because you're family too. Hope you all have a great day.

You?

Am I really the first person to think of this thread, or was it covered somewhere farther down?
This is a good idea!
I, too, am thankful for metachat.
I'm thankful for my roommate who, when I came home last night after having Too Much to drink with the crush, covered me with warm blankets when I fell asleep, and did the dishes.
I'm thankful for the crush, who is nicer to me than any guy I've dated has ever been (although I still haven't said anything since I am lame).
I'm thankful to have good friends to eat with today.
I'm thankful to have a roof over my head, heat, and food in the cabinets.
Mostly I'm thankful that I was finally smart enough to leave my ex husband in the last year, which has allowed me to actually enjoy life again.

I am thankful for my family and friends. For the job that came just in the nick of time. I am thankful that I am still alive and kicking despite my self-destructive tendencies. For the new direction my life seems to be taking, which is scary and terrific at the same time. I am thankful for my dog who is the cutest little thing ever. I am thankful for shelter and warmth and food in my belly. I am thankful for the first snow of the year which fell last night just as I was falling asleep. And I am thankful for the love and support I receive. I am also thankful to Metachat for being a ton of fun and to mudpuppie for starting this thread. ;)

I'm thankful that I still have the inclination and wherewithal to laugh, live, and even love a little. I guess that won't ever change.

But really, for me, Thanksgiving isn't about giving thanks (I'm not much for offering up thanks to the void anyway); Thanksgiving is about rooting around in the basement of my childhood home and in the memories of my parents for clues, stories, and inspiration, and about observing how simultaneously close and far from the tree the apple falls.

Oh yeah, also great food and bad football.

Happy Thanksgiving, my fellow mechanisms. I love you.

I'm thankful for the roof over my head and the food in the fridge, and the bottle of wine we're going to drink.

I'm thankful for the internet so I can talk to my family and friends in a variety of formats, because I can't afford to travel to them. I'm also thankful for the hodgepodge of old computers I have, and the skills to make them sing and dance beyond their years.

I'm thankful for the new job I have, that it's not a terrible hell-hole, and that it should work out nicely.

I'm thankful for my family and friends, no matter how far removed.

I'm thankful for learning, curiosity and wonder, and all the really nice things in this world like books, music, art, nature, and beauty.

I am thankful for my friends and family and that the line between the two groups is so fuzzy. My sisters are my best friends and my friends are part of the family.

I'm thankful for my husband, who somehow makes me feel both protected and enabled and for my daughter, who just spontaneously turned to her dad and said, "I'm thankful to be playing games with you on Thanksgiving."

I'm thankful for everyone here for being so kind, welcoming, smart and funny. Big cranberry kisses to you all.

Please pardon the following comment that turned into a silly poem...

Now, the cat under the desk ponders the ribbon I've hung for her amusement as out the window, an entire world is awash in a bright, blue day, as starlings flock in movements I cannot possibly understand. I'm thankful for this moment.

Today, we'll laugh and toast the season as frost begins to overtake the year's misgivings and regrets, and the chill wind prepares a feast of newness before us. I'm thankful for the tangy ripeness of change and the rock of friendship.

Tonight, under the stars and amid the dance of winter-teased trees, I will be warm, and quiet, and receptive to the dreams that seep from tomorrow's unknown design. On this Earth, an impossible place, I will sleep folded in wonder that we live at all, and have a time to exist, together. I'm thankful to simply be, for however long and for whatever reason.

Tomorrow is mystery, and I'm thankful for that.

All that aside, there's two bytes of wisdom that always seem apropos to T'giving. The credo of Tom Robbins is "Joy, in spite of everything." Today's a day for me where that really hits home, as the job front is bleak and finances worrisome. But life, as we all know, is so much bigger than those meddlesome preoccupations. And whether you're spiritual or not, the old mystic Meister Eckhart once said that "if the only prayer you ever prayed was 'thank you,' that would suffice."

Perhaps that's one thing we can all agree on.

Thank you.

I'm thankful for all the good things that have happened to me recently.

Google is thankful for this.

I'm thankful for MeCha. I'm thankful that I finally had the courage to dump the ex. I'm hopeful that I'll be able to stick to it. I'm thankful that it snowed last night, even if it's all melted. I'm thankful for my dog, Sam. He's the best. Really.

I'm thankful for my house, for second chances, for being able to have dinner with my grandparents tonight, for a bright future, for good music and great books.

Mostly though, I'm thankful for being alive. Have a great day, y'all.

Nice idea, pup.

I'm thankful for my husband, and the great marriage we have. I'm thankful for my friends (in which I count you guys) and the fact that I have made new friends everywhere I have moved, while remaining close to the people I have left behind in other cities and countries. I'm thankful that the people I love are in good health. I'm thankful that I have a comfortable life.

I'm thankful that I just had a big ass chicken enchilada, with lots of hot sauce! (We are eating with a group of friends later tonight, when all the doctors finish work).

I'm thankful that everyone else in my building has left for dinners, and my roommate and I can BLAST music while we get dinner ready.

We haven't really given the subwoofer a chance to stretch it's legs yet.

[crash, if you have to ask....]

I'm thankful for loved ones that I dearly miss because I'm reminded of how blessed I am to know such truly wonderful people and that I must be doing something right to have them in my life. I'm thankful for old traditions and new friends and the chance to incorporate the two. I'm thankful for friends I've yet to meet face to face, but treasure nonetheless. I'm thankful for this weirdo process we refer to as 'life' that amounts to being a journey across an unknown and mapless terrain in glorious and powerful and vulnerable vessels called 'selves'. And I'm thankful for the chance to share it with all of you.

Happy Thanksgiving, MetaChat!

I'm thankful for my family and friends and for mrs nomis who tops both lists. I'm also thankful for my scholarship, without which I would have to get a job.

And I'm thankful for the internet + metachat combo which brings Americans closer to me ... otherwise how would I have known it's Thanksgiving?

Frisbee, I read "mapless terrain" as "maples terrain", and I was all like ... a journey across Canada ...?

Roast turkey breast is done, stuffing is done, mashed potatoes are done, real cranberry sauce was done hours and hours ago, GF is finishing her green bean casserole, need to warm some croissants, having a first glass of wine and a last cigarette... LETS EAT! HUNGRY! RARRGH!

I really wanted to post the "What are you thankful for?" question on AskMe this year, but I wasted my question on some stupid computer question earlier in the week. Nonetheless, I'm grateful for my family, coworkers and online social circle. Yeah. That means you!
