16 November 2005

nice to have my computer back
As I whined about previously, the mobo died and since then I have not been able to access my mp3 library or play games or do just about anything. Now I have my computer up and running again and better than ever. The changes:

Abit AN8 mobo
Athlon 64 3700
more ram (total of 1.5 gigs)
Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO2 (unlocked to 16 pipes, overclocked to X800 XT PE speeds at about 1/2 the cost)

I am sitting here trying to decide if I want to buy a 300 gig SATA drive to replace my smaller HD. If I do that, I will probably backup files on DVD-R and then reinstall everything from the ground up to get rid of a lot of clutter and hopefully eliminate a few minor bugs that I think have to do with long-uninstalled software. Might dual boot with linux on it's own drive too, I dunno. Need to get used to it since I am going to be doing everything I can to avoid the DRM shit that we are going to be facing in another couple of years.

I just tested out the new setup with Doom 3 and it blew the doors off my old rig with an Athlon 64 3000 and Radeon 9800 Pro.

Bitchin'. Can I have a cozy for my CD spindles? ;)

I've got an A64-3000 and a Geforce 6600GT. Not cutting edge but it gets it done, and I can play all the BF2 I can stand.

Damn...why didn't I ever think of that! Here I am knitting these dumb cozies for chocolate bars, dishwashing liquid containers, and computers.
