Random thought/random quote: "I guess I could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me... but it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst... And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life..." -Lester Burnham, "American Beauty"
I love that movie.

Oh, dear God, this time I did preview the front page but my connection burped and now this is right above mm's link to essexjan's askme post.

Mods, please feel free to delete this. It was in no way meant to be placed so inappropriately.

Frisbee Girl, it doesn't seem particularly inappropriate to me but, if you really want it deleted, I will do it.

That's my favorite part of the whole movie. He looks so beautiful when he says it.

FG - THAT quote should be on the Metatalk posting page.

Anyone see the movie Jarhead? By the same director (Sam Mendes). Awsome movie.

Not yet, but I'm going to, even though I abhor war movies.

My boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhaal is in it.

Frisbee, actually I think the two fit perfectly side by side.

Sorry to break it to you Specklet, but it looks like your boyfriend is seeing Heath Ledger. (warning: popups)

I love war movies, and I love gangster movies.(I'm not much on real war, or real gangsters, although I have respect for those who can survive in either world). But, let's face it, war and crime are inherently dramatic and make from great cinema.

Also, I really like cheesesteak. Especially the one with bacon, honey mustard and jalapenos, and a little A1 sauce.

*sings*

I'm just a regular Joe with a regular job.
I'm your average white suburbanite slob.
I like football and p*rno and books about war.
I've got an average house with a nice hardwood floor.
My wife and my job, my kids and my car.
My feet on my table and a cuban cigar.
But sometimes that just ain't enough to keep a man like me interested
(oh no) no way (uh-uh)
No, I've gotta go out and have fun at someone else's expense
(oh yeah) Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
I drive really slow in the ultra-fast lane,
While people behind me are going insane.
I'm an asshole...

...Know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac El Dorado,
hot-fuckin'-pink, with whaleskin hubcaps and all-leather cow interior and big
brown baby seal eyes for headlights... yeah! And I'm gonna drive around in
that baby doing 115 miles an hour, getting 1 mile per gallon, suckin' down
quarter pound cheeseburgers from McDonald's in the old-fashioned non-
biodegradable styrofoam containers... yeah! And when I'm done suckin' down
those greaseball burgers I'm gonna toss the styrofoam containers right out the
side, and there ain't a goddamn thing anybody can do about it. You know why?
Because we got the bombs, that's why... yeah! Two words--nuclear fuckin'
weapons, OK? Russia, Czechoslovakia, Romania, they can have all the democracy
they want...they can have a democracy cakewalk right through the middle of
Tienamen Square and it won't make a lick of fuckin' difference, because we got
the bombs, OK? John Wayne's not dead--he's frozen! And when we find a cure for
cancer, we're gonna thaw out the Duke and he's gonna be pretty pissed off. You
know why? You ever taken a cold shower? Well, multiply that by 15 million
times--that's how pissed off the Duke's gonna be. I'm gonna get the Duke and
John Casavettes and Sam Peckinpah and a case of fuckin' whisky and drive...

You want to see the most beautiful thing I've ever filmed?
it was one of those days...
where it's a minute away from snowing,
and there was this electricity in the air.
You can almost hear it.
Right?
And this bag was just...
dancing with me,
like a little kid begging me to play with it,
for 15 minutes.
That's the day I realized that there was this...
entire life behind things...
and this incredibly benevolent force...
that wanted me to know that there was no reason to be afraid...
ever.
Video's a poor excuse, I know,
but it helps me remember.
I need to remember.
Sometimes there's so much...
beauty...
in the world.
I feel like I can't take it...
and my heart...
is just going to...
cave in.

Pop culture--bah! Here is the real thing:

"In the presence of nature, a wild delight runs through the man, in spite of real sorrows. Nature says, — he is my creature, and maugre all his impertinent griefs, he shall be glad with me . . . Crossing a bare common, in snow puddles, at twilight, under a clouded sky, without having in my thoughts any occurrence of special good fortune, I have enjoyed a perfect exhilaration. I am glad to the brink of fear."

Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature

Glad to the brink of fear.

Hey Delmoi, did you really, really dig it?
I've heard a lot of pans, from people I usually agree with (but I always judge for myself, if I feel strongly about it, which I do, I'ma still see it, I heard it was flat and lacking) I was really looking forward to jarhead, based on the book, which was (imho) really, really good.

PS, that movie didn't wear on me well, like I didn't like it as much, as time went on, but that quote does sum up how I feel much of the time.
