I have stopped caring about my job!→[More:]I thank the incompetent management, which rewards good work with punishment.
Have you actually *wanted* to be a proofreader for many years? Here's your job!
However, we're going to hire people who are milktoast, chickenshit, unqualified retards, who don't know how to use commas, replacing 100 percent of your team within one year because they all want to get away from the shitty management!
Why? Because we want meek little workers who don't complain, and on the company website, being a proofreader doesn't require a high school degree! We hire by type!
We also hear that people leave proofreading because they're "bored". Also, working on stylesheets is a "break".
Yes, I'm about to get fired because the management doesn't like me. I'm going to fight back, but largely for symbolic reasons.
Sorry to hear this: proofreading is one of those jobs that most people view as tedious but one that absolutely must get done, and done by people who know what they're doing.
Ouch. Sorry to hear it's not going well interrobang. Incompetent management can suck the joy out of even the most enjoyable job. I'm glad you're planning to fight back but make sure you've got somewhere to land when you do. I'm pulling for you.
I sympathize. I stopped caring about my job 1 year and 168 days ago. My sole consolation is that I'm a year away from a degree that will get me out of my miserable job and away from management.
After spending days on the new module, your manager is going to spending countless hours "tweaking" it to get it just right. Watch while buttons are resized to such large sizes that your screen appears to have been designed by a six year old. Gasp as edit boxes are rearranged without updating the tab order. Marvel at his mastery of fonts as previously obvious text is changed to a size which not only overwhelms the screen, but is also blocky because "someone" doesn't understand the difference between raster and bitmap. Cry when you have to take phonecalls that demand to know why your previously correctly sized screen no longer fits on your customer's 800x600 monitor.
Then spend hours fuming as your boss explains what a great job he's just done bringing your code up to spec.
interrobang, I think you just absolutely described the work environment at my company. So much for working in mental health... we don't seem to apply the same models we do to our kids to the organization. I'm telling my boss in the next few days that I'm bailing... good luck to ya!
I can't answer this question with the truth because my internet habits are being monitored. So here goes:
I care deeply about my job because it enriches my life, makes me feel like part of something worthwhile, and satisfies my deep-seated work ethic. The pay is beyond my wildest dreams, and who needs benefits, right?
Awww, man, that sucks! I was hoping the job would be really cool for you, John. And I'm (often) a neurotic, compulsive proofreader: there goes my hopes for a job in the field, eh?
