John Fahey instrumental acoustic blues Anyone ever listen to this guy? I have had the '97 re-issue of The Legend of Blind Joe Death playing and can't get enough. It gives me goosebumps.
I recently picked up The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death, and it's pretty great.

I love me some Fahey. Blind Joe Death is indeed a terrific record. He also did an amazing acoustic cover of "Layla," that pre-dates Clapton's and is much more faithful to the original. Here's an mp3 of it.

He's also done great work with Maria Muldaur and written some interesting fiction as well.

Fahey's fantastic - Him and Leo Kottke - sometimes I get into a mood and listen to nothing but the two of them for days.

Now, y2karl why in the world would I check that silly site before this one?!

soplerfo does Kottke have some instrumental only cd's youd' recommend.

Hi jonmc - how're your kidneys? pardon if I missed the update elsewhere.

Hi jonmc - how're your kidneys?

Improving steadily post-op, yoga. The prescription vicodin is helping nicely...oooh, pretty colors..

I even sent up a shoutout from my hospital bed.

Hadn't heard Fahey til now, but just grabbed a torrent of this song ["Twilight Time"] which sounds nice. Kottkeseque in places. Leo, not Jason.

Lookin' good, jonmc!

Leo Kottke is a Fahey imitator, hall.

I always liked Requia, the second side/half of which is Fahey playing over field recordings and tape loops to a greatly disturbing and beautiful effect. You might want to check out Bola Sete's release Ocean Memories which contains work recorded for Fahey's Takoma label. And thanks for linking to the mefi page, y2karl. I'd missed that one.

JF is a big favorite of mine. I talked about him (and linked to a bunch of stuff) in this MeCha post.
