Willy Wonka's Father is Count Dooku!1! I'm a little slow, but I saw the stupid film last night.
Put's on Laura Ashley dress. Swings axe around.

No, no, no! He’s Dracula‘s son! I mean, the Frankenstein’s monster‘s son! No, no, no – the mummy‘s son! Or Saroman‘s – or even Scaramanga‘s!
Or Mr. Midnight‘s!
Or, Sherlock Holmes’ son-

Say what you will about the prequels... Dooku was pretty awesome.

Man, that movie was terrible. I love Willy Wonka & I enjoy Tim Burton, but that was not a good movie.

I knew that movie would suck. Johnny Depp + Tim Burton + classic film remake = Don't waste your time.

You lie, dame.

also, I'm surprised Depp wasn't in planet of the apes.

I do not, kenko. The stupid backstory? Making Wonka a wimpering lonely child instead of a badass, wacked-out candy inventor? Leaving out the part where Charlie fucks up? The total soppiness that is utterly opposed to the tone Dahl is loved for, despite greater narrative fidelity? The appalling travesty of the music? (Again, I *like* Danny Elfman, and I hated it.)

I respectfully disagree with dame. I thought the movie was great, though of course different from the book and the previous movie. Dahl is equally parts sappy (ever read Danny, Champion Of The World?) and dark, which I thought the movie communicated well.

I just saw it yesterday and it sucked. The Oompa Loompa dances were the best bits, and they weren't particularly good.

i liked it a lot, but i think depp's awesome portrayal of wonka made the movie; otherwise it would have been kind of weak. i really enjoyed the visual effects though...

I saw it at the $1.50 theater, and I wanted my money back.

Well, that's the best kind. Okay, it's second to the kind where you first disagree and then realize I was right.

Yeah, every time I began Danny, I fell asleep. Though I did enjoy all the others I read (a lot of them). I guess it is that the type of sweetness rang false.

i think depp's awesome portrayal of wonka made the movie. . . . i really enjoyed the visual effects though...

I liked both but thought they weren't enough. I also left the utterly flat and straight out dull portrayals of all the other kids. It was like they were terrorists or something: they are evil because they are evil.

To be fair, the other version of the film is one of my faves. I tried really hard to like this one, but it didn't work. Oh well. Thanks for letting me get this out.

I'm with ya Dame. It really was embarassing. Shame on Johnny and Tim. sigh.
