I think he just has a different vision for AskMe. He wants it to be a usable resource, without all the noise. I can't blame him. MetaChat is a totally different animal, thank goodness.

Besides, you know the old "give 'em an inch" adage...if he allowed the chit-chat, every thread would be filled with one-liners, and the great resource (I say that without even a trace of sarcasm, since I have a huge crush on AskMe and want to marry it) would become worthless faster than you can say "This Thread Iz Pastede On Yay!"

I kind of like having my askme and my mecha on different plates. People demanded a Mecha, Matt didn't want to do it, some other very nice people did, happy ending!

Yeah, I was kind of angry/baffled that Matt wouldn't put up a MetaChat section, but it's pretty nice to have a place that's not under his control, and that's up when Meef's down.

Seems like matt can just barely handle the three current sections *cough*

I kind of like having tabasco AND red pepper AND jalapenos. But here, not there.

I like having Tapatio, chili garlic sauce, sriracha, mongolian fire oil, jalapenos, little red chiles, jabanero hot sauce, sambal, and ABC (Heinz owned Indonesian sweet hot sauce, kinda like ketchup but with chiles instead of tomatos)

iconomy nailed it. Personally, I like chatty. However, in AskMe more chattiness would make it unusable as a serious resource. A line had to be drawn somewhere and I think mathowie did it right.
