Wow. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Maybe I should just back away from the thread . . . (not to say I wouldn't have done the same thing if attacked).
Well, the deer just wanted to get the hell out. You open a door, leave it alone, and eventually it will find its way. It wasn't an attack, it just saw its reflection in the glass, thought it was another buck, butted antlers with its reflection and then ended up totally confused and stuck in a house. "What the f***? How'd I get here and where'd the other guy go?"
Deer don't attack people unless they (or their young) are really threatened. If you get too close to a deer's fawns it will snort and stomp the ground with its front hooves as a warning, then usually the whole herd will run away. It's actually beautiful to watch. The older deer tend to keep the young surrounded in the middle of the herd. I used to get myself about 20 feet away from a herd. I could never get closer, even if I was upwind and they couldn't scent or see or hear me. They would just SENSE me and get nervous. Very cool and a little freaky.
there are deer on the outer banks in n.c. who haven't ever been hunted. they're not friendly and cuddly and shit, but they don't have the same intense fear. i walked to within about five, maybe ten feet of one. she didn't bolt, just moved back across the clearing.
Early yesterday morning, my dad's oncologist had someone fall through his ceiling (he lives in a nice suburban house -- the guy had broken into his attic). When the intruder didn't turn and leave, the doc shot him.
