Fernando Ferrer's ad attacking NYC Mayor Bloomberg [qt link] for his buddy buddy relationship with George W. comes off as more than a bit homophobic. The tag line? "He's not like Mike; he's more like you." That said, if you live in NYC, do vote for Ferrer next week.
(What's the character limit for post titles anyway? Sorry about splitting it into two identical links.)

it's odd, seems like everyone hated Bloomberg when he started, now, he's popular? Odd.

Well, post-9/11 a lot of people in NYC have gotten a little skittish. And, Ferrer, while inoffensive in terms of policy, has been around so long that he comes across as just another ward heeler. Many New Yorkers are distrustful of just about all politicians, simply because of the cities long history of corruption. In the Apple "Democrat," has historically meant "corrupt bastard with his hand out."

(addendum: please do not take the preceding comment as an endorsement of the GOP or a condemnation of the Democrats, it's merely a historical observation)

Yeah, sorry Nobody. I am not going to vote for Ferrer, he's had a hand in every pocket in town, the worst kind of career influence peddler, plus I hate his mustache and leering face. I will also not vote for Bloomie, although I find him to be a competent administrator, which New York needs. He is simply too rich to care about my plight and the plight of all the other working people (many of whom, like myself actually grew up here and are natives, sons of the soil, like). We cannot afford to live here and we will probably never be able to own our own homes in the city where we are from. Also he gives money to the GOP so he can suck it. I rarely do not vote, but this year it looks like that's the way it is? Is there even anyone else running?

Yeah. I saw a graphic in the past couple of days charting his popularity since he took office. If I remember it correctly, he started slightly below 50%, dipped all the way down to 30% or so and has only risen above 50% in the past few months?

I don't remember what the exact polling question was. Anyone have a link?

What's odd to me is that the attack ads are a lame ripoff of those already-way-lame Jib Jab flash animations. Yet another way that his campaign fallen short of mediocrity, even. Anyone know what Ferrer's platform is? Something about being from the Bronx and sending his kids to public school, if I recall.

And Bloomberg... have a feeling his popularity has something to do with the $34,000/hr campaign he's waging. Though he'd be a lot more popular if he just cut every New Yorker a check for $1,000.

That would come out to around 8 billion dollars.

According to your link, he's spent around $8 per resident so far.

So maybe he could take everyone to the movies? It would have to be in another city of course, where $8 could actually buy you a ticket.

Uhh, I'd like to, uhh, take everyone in New York to the movies, uhh, probably chicken little, but listen, I only got like 8 billion, so... if you could just bring like two, two fifty extra and you're gonna have to get your own popcorn, uhh, Mike 05, peace out.

He could buy everbody a pack of smokes and a snickers bar!

That's why I'm still not impressed by Bloomberg. He's good for a lot more than $8/resident. And he wouldn't even have to pay off each resident, just likely voters. What's that -- like one-fifth of all residents at best? Comes out to $40 - $60/voter.

Pony up, Bloomberg. I'm not voting for you until my check clears.
