That is a painfully fitting motto for these days. (I only wish I were better armed.)
When I was a child, I had an illustrated version of the tale of the blind men and the elephant, and that's how I feel: that this act of war, that disaster, those people suffering poverty and illness and oppression, that polluted stream and fouled earth and air all form some beast whose shape I can barely discern, with a gray foot poised above our collective heads. Every so often, a few well chosen words reveal the shape more clearly.
