Coffee Beer Yay! or Meh. ?
No alcohol? What's the point? Coffee is already booze-free, smells like coffee (duh) and can be served cold.

Meh.

If there's no booze in my coffee, then no thanks. Just 'cause it's fizzy, doesn't grab me. I'll stick with espresso martinis at the Railway Club for the maximum caffeine-to-alcohol ratio. mmmmmm.

not that stuff, but beer brewed with coffee = yay! Lagunitas makes a fantastic Cappuccino Stout.

Mmm...
The little spanish restaurant near my house makes a wicked coffee drink - vodka and 151 in a brandy glass, flaming, sprinked with cinnamon (flares up spectacularly), then add Kahlua, spanish coffee, more cinnamon, and whipped cream.

Mercy, muddgirl. That sounds awesome!

I find both alone to be detestable. The combination or even the thought of makes my stomach want to invert itself.

I had some beer brewed with coffee about 10 years ago -- Silverback Gorilla black coffee ale. Great stuff. Unfortunately, it's no longer made.

Coffee in the morning. Beer at night. It is simple and to the point and never, never, should they meet.

mill street coffee porter is really nice.

me3dia, I was sitting here before trying to think of that. I had some! I barely remember it but I know I liked it.

Here in Portland, this is called a Spanish Coffee, and a little bar called Greater Trumps makes the best one you've ever had. They even carmelize sugar onto the rim of the glass by setting it on fire.

Speck, when I tended bar in Portland, we would get streams of orders for those fuckers. The joys playing with fire/performance art wears off rather quickly when you're making them in batches of 4 or more because they're so labor intensive and they're really not the same if you don't do them just *so*.

The closest I ever came to telling a customer to flat out piss off was the woman who wanted an iced Spanish Coffee. Completely assinine.

And to get back on topic, dhruva, I'd try it. Sounds interesting, if nothing else. It also brings to mind Bibicaffe and Pike Place's Espresso Stout for coffee/beer/carbonation combos.

I agree! Yeah, Greater Trumps is a tiny place, and I knw the bartender, so it works out okay...

Wish I could take you out for a Spanish Coffee, Fris!!!
