Mr. Sulu, please report to the brid-- [More:]--I mean the dance floor! I'm so happy for you I just gotta DANCE! Not that it was much of a secret for those who always saw you and Brad out and about in West Hollywood for so many years, but now it's "official".

DANCE! I AM DANCING!
Good on ya George! I am not gay so I really don't know what it was like but I have to think it feels good to get this out in the open.

Somehow, I've known this for years. Not snarking. Call it psychic gaydar.

woot!!! (altho i knew it too) : >

maybe this is just the beginning? Tab Hunter, Swoopes, and Sulu? maybe they'll all start to come out?

I had no idea! I am happy as hell that he came out publicly. Yowza.

Gay schmay! The guy's 68 years old and he's playing Martin Dysart of EQUUS every night on stage? THAT is incredible! That is not an easy play to perform.

It's always been pretty damn obvious that he was gay, I thought. *shrug*

Ok, I don't know if I've disclosed this before, but I have sort of a "reverse gay-dar", which means, I'm attracted to these guys, and I don't know why, really (cause they're not that handsome or pretty, or attractive in any way), and then it turns out they're gay. It works about 87% of the time. And I've been attracted to Mr. Sulu for about 1 million years now. So there you go.

"San Francisco ... I was born there."

Heh.

I had no idea Takei was gay; having seen him only in "Star Trek" it just didn't register. When I was 24 years old I was at the Different Light bookstore in Santa Monica and nearly knocked him down backing up from a bookshelf. I was flabbergasted. However, he was the *nicest* guy. He had read whatever Clive Barker book I was reaching for--he didn't recommend it--and instead pointed me toward an anthology of stories featuring gay themes. It was good. I was too in thrall to his voice to even think about having him sign it. I wonder if he would have back then? Good times.

Tab Hunter used to be a customer of mine; I worked on his Mac once and if his petite "assistant" didn't give him away his wallpaper of Judy Garland sure did. He was ALSO another really nice guy, and gave me a poster of "Lust in the Dust" which he'd signed for me. More good times. I miss living in "Hollywood North".

...that should be "anthology of science fiction stories", which was sort of the whole point of the story, him being Mr. Sulu and all.

Dude, I knew he was gay way back when he was on Channel One.

Pass ethylene the smelling salts.

Which movie was it that Sulu kicked the jock-bullies ass and left them hanging upside down? I think it was the third one.

Good on George.

George Takei, who as helmsman Sulu steered the Starship Enterprise through three television seasons and six movies, has come out as a homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.
