White Sox World Champions!! The start of a great Fitzmas? We await another grand-slam victory from Illinois!
Beat me to it ortho. Congratulations Chisox! It's been a long time coming and you blew EVERYONE away in the post-season. You earned it, and you did it with, as my baseball-lovin' grampa would say, "the fundamentals". Hats off to you, champs! And Neal Cotts ... if you're looking for a fun time, gimme a call you hot thang you.
Congrats, Chicago, but can we accept the consolation prize that the Angels were the only team to win a single game against the ChiSox during the playoffs?
BTW, is the South Side the part of Chitown where they invented the Deep Dish Pizza?
So, which countries were competing in this world championship?
Before the game, they announced the All Time Latino (born south of the U.S.ofA.) Team [of course, in a few years, the catcher's position will go to one-or-more of the Molina brothers]. Apparently, 25% of all Major League Players today are from Spanish Surname places - and 40% of the Minor Leaguers...
This is going to be one of those "where were you" moments for me.
Not because it was thatexciting (though I have watched all the playoffs and was definitely rooting for the sox).
No, I'll remember because I was laying on the couch, and my little cat was curled up in my lap. And when they got that final out to first, I raised my arms in celebration. And the cat freaked. And, well, there may be scars. Uncomfortable ones.
*dances giddily*
*accepts congratulations*
*pours another drink*
*puts wistful wishes of actually being in chicago out of mind*
*dances some more*
WOOO!
I've been a Sox fan since I was kid and I've been wiating for this my whole life, and I actually fell asleep on my couch between the 8th and 9th innings. I was awoken by the celebrating. So my "where were you moment" was sleeping on the floor in front of the tv.
I guess that proves that I'm not a sports fan. I go to every Sox home opener (missed one since '89) and catch a few games every year, but other than the Sox I really don't follow baseball. Or any sport, other than maybe surfing and boxing. A few friends and coworkers are puzzled that I can be so passionate about the Sox yet not follow rest of the sport outside of them. I guess my dad just instilled such a Sox loyalty (he grew up down the street from the park) at an early age that I can't shake it.
This is going to make getting home opener tickets next year a bitch.
Well, I was supporting the Astros, though just arbitrarily as my team is the (poor, sad) Orioles. But it was good to see the White Sox win after this long.
It's been an amazing year for my Astros. I was thrilled to pieces they were in the series at all. So it's hard to say Congrats to the Sox, but there it is.
I was at a friend's place (sorry, muddie, I was actually torn between going and watching along w/you in #metachat -- real life won out on the promise of dinner) on the 41st floor of a tower along the lake. When the Sox won, we went out on the deck to watch the city celebrate. People were "wooooohooo!"-ing all over, and fireworks were going off in spots all over the city. It was great to be able to see the whole city celebrate like that.
