Best song about the working week. ever. From my beloved Bottle Rockets.
I didn't download it, but if it's not "Gotta Get Up," something is very wrong. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a coffee monkey on my back.

Of course it's "Gotta Get Up." Whaddaya take me for, ya mamaluke?

Christ, Jon. Would you get out of my music collection, please?

I thought no one this side of the Mississip listened to them!

Well, coulda been "Sunday Sports." Though that's more about the weekend than the work week.

Eideteker, I found a promo copy of The Brooklyn Side in the bargain bin at a local indie shop a decade ago and fell in love with the 'Rockets. This song is only the tip of the iceberg. "Welfare Music" "Slo Toms" "Smokin' 100's Alone" and "Indianapolis" are just as great.

And in high school I felt like the only roots-rock/cowpunk fan on the east coast, so I'm with you, there.

Ok, but what *is* the "Brooklyn Side"? =D

It's one of their albums. It features "Welfare Music," a great country song with a sneak attack on Rush Limbaugh, and "$100 Car," among other gems.

No no no... what is the origin of the phrase "The Brooklyn Side"?

I have a live version of Indianapolis if you want it. It's the one where he says, "We're doing pretty much all the songs off our new album tonight just because, frankly, we need the practice."

I can yousendit if by some measure of the imagination you don't have it.

The 'Rockets are kind of a strange story. Too hairy and rural for MTV, too punk rock for the Nashville Network. They got a major label contract based on underground acclaim, but Atlantic "declined to promote" the album that resulted (one of the best of the last 20 years IMHO, and they were dropped and went back to an indie label. More proof that the media machine is run by twits.

On preview: put it on yousendit and post it, please. I imagine it just means the Brooklyn side of the bridge, but who knows.

Indianapolis (live)

Dunno where all the references on the web went, but here's the gist of "the Brooklyn Side". It's the side of the original bowling lanes in Manhattan that faced Brooklyn. I learned it from a site that has apparently evaporated.

sorry, jon, you send it is having a major brain cloud on me. i'll try later.

Bottle Rockets are a terrific live band if you ever get a chance to see them. The last time I caught them they played for almost 2.5 hours as the booker kept bringing shots on the stage for them every time they said they were done.

I got my partner hooked on the Bottle Rockets with their "$1000 Car," and he's been a major fan ever since. (I also like 'em a lot, but not to the extent that he does.)

And yeah, jon, "24 Hours A Day" is one cool album.

I enjoyed this, but it didn't make my scrotum scrunch up and get all wrinkly, which is my indicator of Teh Excellence In Rockin'.

More beer may well be necessary.

I like Elvis Costello's Welcome to the Working Week. Used to be my start up music on my PC when I had a 9-to-5.

Thanks jonmc. Now I have to listen to my BR for the rest of the day. What a great thing.

I know this thread is dead, but in case any BR fans come back around, I thought I'd add a couple songs featuring B. Henneman. This is Coffee Creek, the Henneman/Uncle Tupelo side project.

Mendocino and She's About a Mover.

(Bootlegs, so the quality isn't great. But the songs are good.)
