Painterly Cloud Ceilings... Has anyone ever painted a cloud ceiling? They're so dreamy. And calming. I'm going to attempt one myself but had to share this kit, which has the added bonus of bunny templates.
I've never done a cloud ceiling, but my current and previous bedroom have each been painted a sky blue. Very calming.

iconomy, get out of my head!!! I really want to do this in the kid's room and was just starting research how. I think I need to buy that kit. The cloud shapes are very daydreamy.

me3dia, that's good for calming ghosts, too. If you believe in that sort of thing.

My wife painted our son's bedroom with this theme (sky, clouds, but no bunnies) when he was still an infant. It was very soothing.

(But that bedroom also had a view to a distant lighthouse far across Puget sound, and my love for that feature may affect my recollection.)

A blue ceiling is also great on a porch; it keeps wasps from making nests.

Is that the real reason for blue porch ceilings?? I never knew that, and always wondered. I was actually just going to ask that. It's really common in the south (US).

jrossi, how weird! We should compare notes. I'm going to clear out the room hopefully this weekend, and then do the ceiling. I'm going to do a very faint and barely discernible harlequin pattern on the walls, too, so this whole room will have painting effects on it. It's a teensy tinsy bedroom - 12 x 7.

Iconomy, that sounds awesome. Our house is pretty old and woefully outdated, so we're constantly painting and renovating. I'm always looking for ideas, so please post pics when you're done!

Mine too - it's what you call an American Foursquare style, from 1917. In serious need of some updating. We've been updating it since 1988, which is when we moved there. And it will NEVER be done!

Does it have one of those giant porches? I'm totallly jealous!

Ours was built in the 50s. It's built into a hill, so the front looks like a tiny ranch, but from the back its three stories. Apparently the guy that built it (our neighbor's uncle)was a bit of a wackjob. But we're "old house" people who like the quirks. How many other people have a scrapple maker in their barn?

Your house sounds fantastic! And me too, I'm all about the quirks. I would have to be, to live in this house.

My house is an American Foursquare as well, built in 1910. I painted clouds on the ceiling of the back porch. They're not as good as the ones you linked, but they're okay, and fun. It would have helped to have taken and printed a lot of cloud pictures for reference. The front porch ceiling is dark blue, and will get a constellation added next summer.

Iconomy, the harlequin effect sounds cool.

O wow that sounds amazing, theora! I've always wanted a constallation ceiling in my hall. Are you painting it yourself? Are you using anything for reference? I'm salivating over here.

Yeah most people salivate over food. I salivate over home improvement.

If you don't see and respond to this I'm going to dog you by email, so I hope you see it ;)

Y'all must post pictures!

Yes! Pictures!

It would probably be less work to just install a skylight, surely? Then you get a cloud ceiling and a constellation.

Iconomy, just saw your response. It got too cold ot keep painting, so I have all winter to invent a constellation. I want to have a crescent moon and evening star, like this, and an invented constellation. Can't be complicated, as I'm no artist.
