Music Time. Me & the Mrs. are going to see James McMurtry tonight[More:]So in honor of the man's (he's also the son of Pulitzer Prize winning novelist Larry McMurtry) appearance, here are three great songs by him.

Levelland.

I'm Not From Here.

Where's Johnny?
I wasn't aware he was still performing or even alive. I like his first record but don't think I've heard much beyond that.

That said, I didn't know there was a Mrsmc.

That said, I didn't know there was a Mrsmc.

We're not technically married, but we've been together 10 years. Ain't we cute?

McMurtry is indeed alive and well, and the quality of his music has remained quite consistent.

10 years beats my record. Congrats.

Thanks, dawg. Hope you enjoyed the tunes. His new album has beautifully scathing and incredibly compassionate anti-Bush song called "We Can't Make it Here."

I'm a fan of McMurtry's, and envy you and mrsmc, jon.

I'll likely never be able to download (or upload) music here (heh..anywhere) , but I really encourage people who don't know about J. M. to delve into jonmc's links above. :D I'd start with "Where's Johnny", myself.

Oh man I'm so jealous. I've seen him twice - he is even better in person than on CD. I love the man - in fact, look closely and you'll see how much I love him -

That's his picture up there on the wall of my bedroom, far left. yes, I am a 14 year old girl. Why do you ask?
Let us know how the show was!

It was great, although James didn't go on until 11 and some idiot hippie in front of us wouldn't stop dancing like a whirling dervish. He didn't do "Levelland" or "Where's Johnny," but he did do "Out here InThe Middle" and an amazing "Choctaw Bingo." After the show we went to Katz's for pastrami and at the show I ran into my buddy Paulie from the Bronx, which was a treat.

The lefties will appreciate his political hit We Can't Make It Here Anymore, if they haven't heard it.

There's a nice little Dylan allusion in the middle.
