It's funny because she claims to believe in "free speech" and she deletes comments. Of course, I'd expect as much from someone who [venomous comment deleted]
I agree. Putting unnecessary entries into an encyclopedia isn't free speech. And I'm not trying to start an argument about anybody else. I just don't think putting quonsar in wikipedia is anything but cultification, something the great man is apt to mock I would have thought.
[and mind you, I'd likely delete a lot of entries were I given any knife-wielding powers]
There is already too much shit in wikipedia, man. It is a good tool and there are a lot of things I am planning on adding this winter, but stuff like a shout-out to quonsar (come on, that is all it is) and similar articles just waste space. I do not think Jess should have an article there either.
WTF? That quonsar's a non-notable blogger doesn't mean that she can't welcome him back to MeFi. Should we all have our own Wikipedia articles? How about Rothko and Dios? They were worth $500.
Don't you have better things to worry about?
Hey mcgraw. I'm not sure this is worth pickin' a fight over. I don't say you shouldn't post this or support it even, but I would be surprised if the majority of people inhabiting here, MeFi or the world for that matter would just see it as a memecult. And I also agree with what kk said.
It seemed more than hypocritical for Jess to recommend deletion and to pretend that she didn't know who q is, only to chime in with the CROWD when he returned to Mefi.
You can't have it both ways.
And Wiki Admin would have it both ways in allowing some articles while deleting others of similar significance.
But, I was wrong to make such a stink about it.
I shouldn't have posted this and wish I hadn't. Sorry to those who I offended.
I was so offended that I asked someone to buy me a tall can of beer when they went to the gas station for snacks, then I realized I wasn't offended, I just wanted a beer. Which I have, which I am drinking.
I dunno about Jessamyn, but I voted to delete because he didn't meet the Wikipedia standards for inclusion of living people. No pretending I didn't know him necessary.
Seriously, though, over there people are writing an encyclopedia, where there's regularly debates on whether or not tenured professors, or losing candidates for state and provincial elections, are sufficiently notable and verifiable for inclusion. This isn't some low blow at quonsar, it's just that an overwhelming majority of people aren't encyclopedic.
I emailed quonsar to tell him there was an article-for-deletion vote about him [in case he didn't know] and also said in the AfD vote that I'd reconsider my vote on it if more was added to it. That email was what started the back and forth emails that eventually wound up with q being back at MeFi, which I supported and advocated for, so I think it wound up okay.
