Yell at the machine BUREAUCRACIES STINK. PEOPLE IN BUREAUCRACIES WHO DON'T DO THEIR JOBS STINK. PEOPLE WHOSE COWORKERS KNOW AND ADMIT DON'T DO THEIR JOBS ANNOY ME, WASTE MY TIME, AND AFFECT MY HEALTH IN A DIRECT MANNER.

IT'S ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU CRAZY. WHICH DEFEATS THE PURPOSE IN AN ASTOUNDINGLY LITERAL MANNER.

ARG.
So what's your job anyway, bunnyfire?

I don't work. (I am in school right now.)I do however (or am supposed to, is more like it) obtain certain critically needed medication thru a certain local government bureaucracy. The program I am on gets the meds from the pharmaceutical companies themselves. The coordinator has managed to totally screw up this process, over and over and over again, forcing me to rely on teenytiny samples and show up at said bureaucracy about every two weeks to cool my heels and be told that my meds are not in and oh by the way here are two more weeks of samples.

Which are a literal pain to get out of their teenytiny childproof hermetically sealed packages.

I'm wondering what cya excuse I will hear THIS time.

Trust me, you WANT me to have these meds.

yeah, but what local or federal government assistance agency hasn't been totally fucked up since april?
people on medicade and medicare have it worst as there are many eldery who get a new form every week of totally different opposing info--
i'm never sure who to be horrified for more, the workers or the clients

The drugstores near me have started selling these plastic things with various pill shaped depressions designed to make opening this kind of packaging easier. You line up the packaging with the depression and just push it through. The gizmo is shaped like a cat for some reason, and I think doubles as an opener for childproof bottles. I'll see if I can dig up a link.

Not that that helps with the main issue.

Found it: the Purrfect Opener.

has anyone else been reading the letters from drugstores that you get from writing them to fill people's prescriptions?
Target was down right apologetic compared to the totally defensive ones.

clearly, socialized medicine sucks. it doesn't work as well as the "buy your own meds if you have the money, or just die" free-market, freedom-loving system we liberals are appalled by. but if you ask nicely, they'll give you a band-aid with a purple heart on it, free of charge.

PST! I gotta get one of those for my mum. Thanks!

Oh, and I'm sorry Bunnyfire, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't get my meds. Most likely, I'd be dead by now.

Yay for socialized medicine!

Serious question: do people in the US have access to and ombudsman, helping citizens to cut through the red tape and self-sustaining government ineptitude?
posted by reflecked 20 October | 13:59
Well, good bureaucracies provide oversight, accountability, and some adherence to the rule of law.

Introduce me to one sometime, would ya?

AN ombudsman.
posted by reflecked 20 October | 13:59
I can get in touch with the provincial ombudsman's office by calling the Gov't Help phone line. I'd bet that the US has a similar service. They don't advertise, i do know that. :)

Can you rephrase that? It sounds like you're asking about writing letters to drugstores to fill prescriptions for random people, but that doesn't make any sense.

Pinkstainless tail, thanks for the link but these meds come in a blister pack. 25 mg each, and I take 100 a day. Four opportunities a day to say ouch. Assuming I remember the stinkin things.

Actually the problem I am having really does stem from one single individual who apparently could be doing a much better job. This from personal observation and a few hints from someone in the know. Not to mention that her phone manners could use some refreshing.
