I like looking at interior design books and magazines. Loft books. Nest Magazine. Etc. I also like smashing things up. So I'm curious: [More:]1. Do you have any links to sites that have lots of pictures of lofts/homes/interior decorating/neat furniture? 2. How much would it cost to demolish a house? For #2, I know that would depend on the size of the house and where it's located, but just ballpark figgers: your average city dwelling. What would it cost to demolish it and have all the debris removed? What else would be involved? (Permission from city/permits/wha?)
1. I have a subscription to Dwell, if you pay the shipping you can have all my back issues. They're full of modern, nifty, reasonably priced stuff.

2. Dunno. But as a kid one of my finest moments was when my parents were remodeling and I was allowed (encouraged even!) to take a sledgehammer into my brother's room and RIP THE FUCKING WALLS OUT. Ahhhhhh.

2. not cheap. I'd guess at minimum it would be 5,000USD. You'd be renting at least one dump truck and a bulldozer, as well as paying for inspections and permits. Much of the debris from a demolished house is classified as industrial waste, and has to be specially handled.

Demo-ing produces *huge* amounts of crap. You'd need a number of dumpsters, I would think, even for a small house. Think of a number, then double it. If you want to rebuild, you'd also have to deal any existing footings/pads/basement holes, etc., put a new pad in. You'd also need to get contractors in prolly to officially disconnect all services to code. That's just the beginning ... Any self-respecting demo firm should be able to give you a basic quote.

Maybe you could run it as a self-discovery/team building camp for stressed out yuppies?

2. How much is a book of matches?

Hugh, that would just make a bigger and more expensive mess to clear away. You need heavy explosives to be truly effective ... and an alibi.
