AskMeCha Obscure, out of print music[More:]

I've been looking for several pieces of music for a few years, with no luck:

'Saskatchewan' and 'Chenko' (not to be confused kenko) by a Canadian band called Red Box

and

an alternate release of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Welcome To The Pleasuredome' that was much more apocalyptic than the popular stateside release. The song order was a bit different and it had several cuts of a British voice talent instructing people on (iirc) how they should properly dispose of their dead and advising them that his was the last voice they would hear.

All help is much appreciated!
Have you looked on GEMM?

Alex is on the money, if you want to buy, check GEMM. If you want to dl, check the BasicHip folks or get ahold of WFMUers.

Thanks guys! That site is very cool. I have to admit that $23 for a single is a little prohibitive. Ah well, it was worth trying!

The Frankie CD is still very much available over here. I have a copy myself if you want any tracks or whatever.

Incidently, you can hear the apocalyptic voice here. Yep, it was a reconstruction of an actual warning.

Frisbee Girl, is the FGTH song you're thinking of not "Two Tribes" instead of "Welcome To The Pleasuredome"? I have that version on vinyl, never found it on CD. Here's an MP3 of it that I did fnd online, but whoever transferred it from vinyl got a "skip" in it in one spot... not perfect, but since I don't have a turntable anymore, I can't copy it myself.

If you find it on CD, or a better MP3, let me know!

dodgy, thanks so much! I've had a hard time even finding consistent info on it and no one I know personally knows what I'm talking about. It helps knowing that copies are still floating around.

bpc, I'm referring to the entire album, actually. The $23 single I referred to above was the only cd version of Red Box's 'Saskatchewan' that I found on the GEMM site. If/when I manage to get my hot little hands on the FTGH pressing that I once had, I'll give you a holler.

Wow, I didn't know about GEMM and just found the LP I've been looking for for 10 years. Thanks Alex.

OT, but Fris: I wrote up this huge avgolemono post for you this morning, and then my electricity went out and I lost it before posting... I'll tackle it again when I stop crying.

*hugs and snuzzles taz*

Thanks a bunch and no hurry. Soup season is just starting, though I won't have time to tackle anything until Thursday at the earliest. But I am so very excited!

I'll check for red box when I go home for lunch.

Did you find all the songs you were looking for, fris? I can't tell by the comments...heh. I found both of the red box songs on my p2p and I'm queued for download - do you want them or do you already have 'em?

I have the FGTH you seek on vinyl from back in the day; unfortunately, it's still at my parents' house in Maryland, where I left it back in the day.

If you don't have it by Thanksgiving, I'll retrieve it and figure out how to do something useful with it.

For those enjoying GEMM there is also Netsounds - when I can't find stuff on GEMM, they often have the goods.

iconomy, no, I couldn't find anything from them except that single for $23. I'd love to have them and if you're ready, I am as well.

Speaking of song ISOs, I'm looking for the song "Drunk on the Train to Chicago" by Drink Me, an obscure NYC duo, and "Na Na Hey Hey" by Steam. Anyone?
posted by me3dia 17 October | 12:50
Ok I emailed you Chenko, fris. Via gmail. If for some reason you don't get it, let me know and I'll upload it to yousendit or my own server.

I'm downloading Na Na Hey Hey right now, me3dia. I'll send it in a minute.

Na Na Hey Hey - Steam

edit: I just remembered about YouSendIt, fris, which is why I emailed you your song. I'll upload the other one to YouSendIt if I ever get it downloaded! I'm about 2000000th on the queue.
