MetaChat is an informal place for MeFites to touch base and post, discuss and
chatter about topics that may not belong on MetaFilter. Questions? Check the FAQ. Please note: This is important.
oh christ alexreynolds grow up and stop defacing the wikipedia. how old are you? if you really want to help, you should sign up for a wiki account and then make a valid case for your "edits", instead of vandalizing the page. otherwise, go do your little axe-grinding elsewhere, please.
This is why I really don't like Wikipedia all that much (and Metafilter, recently). It's just the internet taking itself too seriously. What happened to all the fun?
i'm boggled that my emailing alex has so thoroughly pissed him off. what if someone actually caused him harm? good grief! i'm flattered by the wiki effort, but as i implied elsewhere, i think wikipedia is silly. besides, it forces the capital q, which in my opinion makes it brain-dead from the git-go.
I'd rather Wikipedia be useful, rather than funny. The entry still doesn't impart much of any useful information. Uncyclopedia might be a better place for it.

I learned that quonsar has an astoundingly high I.Q. Really, how do a couple articles about internet personalities make wikipedia any worse than it already is?
well, i would've added more useful, higher quality biographical information to q's entry... but i was kinda waiting for the ok from the man himself. hence, my quick & dirty edit was topical and brief. not unlike most other wiki stubs. q opted out gracefully, no there's no love lost.
however.
if a wanker like jason kottke (whom i guarantee no one outside of the cracker-assed, circle-jerking echochamber that is the "blog-o-sphere" has ever heard of, and couldn't care less about) is considered notable enough to warrant his own entry in such an encyclopedia, i'm not quite sure quonsar should be immediately ruled out as non-notable/vanity "blogger"/whatever.
1. meepzorp gets all kinds of traffic, and blort is well-regarded among the more technosavvy among us.
2. as well, he's something of an internet celebrity... along the lines of a lowtax, rusty foster, cmdr taco, drew curtis, mathowie, et al., although q's site lacks a messageboard.
3. meepzorp existed in one form or another long before kottke even discovered his first pube.
4. quonsar has been getting "not-paid" to "blog" and/or "blogging" professionally (whateverthefuck that means) way before kottke started w/ his micropatronage/panhandling schtick.
5. gene roddenberry got the idea for star trek after listening to quonsar talk in his sleep!
I figure if blort has enough traffic, then why not let it stay? It's not like it's a whole article about his mefi war with minya or something. It's about a legitimate webmaster with a lefitimate and respected site.
Unfortunately, wiki editors often associate "I've never heard of him," with "non notable."
We're here for you Alex, truly. Just take a deep breath, let go and relax a bit, and I think you'll enjoy it (I think that because I've seen you being really fun and silly before). If you're not into the silly, that's okay - not everybody's cup of tea, obviously.
But trust me... If you want to just hang out and have fun, nobody will give you hard time.
Yeah, what taz said - we welcome all kinds here and, as long as it stays reasonably friendly, nobody will get hurt (make sure you bring your thick skin with you, though, to be sure). If things get nasty, though, well, you don't want to see taz when she gets angry.
Thanks once again Wedge-- this time for pointing out on that discussion page that Jessamyn has a "vanity" Wiki article.
Those guys think Quonsar created the article. Jessamyn refers to Quonsar's significance as "cult". Right.
And I'm not even going to do a google search of "Jessamyn" for unique hits (one measure of relevance, according to Wiki admin). The FSM to Quonsar google unique hits count ratio is 5:1, FSM around 675 unique hits, Quonsar-- 155. That's suggests Quonsar relevance, given the worldwide coverage of the ID/Darwinism in public schools debate. Quonsar turns up on one-fifth as many unique server pages as FSM on the net. Vanity?
Q's wishes should be respected and the article deleted for that reason only.
i don't think i know enough to have a real opinion on it but i pretty much agree with this:
What's the point of deleting this, it's not like there is anyone else or any thing that has the same name. Why do you waste time on deleting this when there are so many stubs that need to be fleshed out.
personally, i'd like a q entry (for my own reasons)but more refined or done differently--
--maybe i'll finish this thought later.
