Fall Is Officially Here (self link).→[More:]
We built a fire today. We might even get snow here in Denver, although right now it's just raining. First frost we've already had.
Yes, teece, it is a crappy rainy day here on the front range, though we did have some sleet briefly here in Golden. I hope it does snow tonight. I can't WAIT.
Oh, man - snow already? That's a little too hardcore for me.
I was just lamenting the first day of not-quite-fantastic tomatoes at the market yesterday. I adore Fall, but I do like it to creep in little by little.
Sitting on the couch here in Boulder watching the rain out of the windows, unfortunately with no log fire to look at. It may be Fall, but it looks like we'll be back to late summer (sunny, high 60s) by Thursday. Gotta love Colorado for that ;)
Denver winters are actually not bad at all. I bet winter in New York is worse. For one thing, the air here is actually pretty dry, and dry air has a harder time sucking heat out of you. I went to St. Louis in October once, and it was in the low thirties. With their humidity I was freezing to death!
Plus, the sun always shines here. Denver weather is really mild compared to say, Minnesota. Sure, it's not L.A. weather, but it's not bad.
But Fall is the very best time of year here. I love it.
This weekend just finished was the hottest October weekend on record. The sun shone, the birds sung, people sweated and swam in the clear ocean waters. It's gonna be a hot summer, I think, when it is this hot in the middle of spring.
This is the first weekend we've had our AC off here in Georgia since last June. We've been hitting the 80s every day until yesterday, and it was only two weeks ago we were still hitting the low 90s.
The most normal place I lived in the U.S., in terms of seasons, was in the mountains of North Carolina (also, beautiful!), but everyplace else was psychocold (Alaska) or psychohot (everywhere else)... So I really, really love that I get all four seasons here in Greece. And while July and August are still too intense for me, I am so happy about the fact that fall really does begin in September: the air cools a bit, freshening breezes pick up, summer haze dissipates and the light turns clear and killer-beautiful. So good. And right about now is when I need to start adding a sweater. Sweet.
