the possum song.

We have a possum that drops by every few weeks and sits on the air conditioner and watches TV through the window for an hour or two. They eat mice, rats, squirrels and other rodents. I like our neighborhood possum.

I love possums. They're not mean, like their stereotype. N America's only marsupials, too! Here are possum printsin the snow from my back yard last winter. Note the opposable "thumb on the BACK "hands." The thumns, for some reason, are clawless.

In NC where I used to live, not far from Asheville, there was a strech to blacktop road where a possum had been run over in the center of the road. The line painters had come along and painted the lines, and there was this outline of a long gone smooshed possum on the road where the painter truck had just kept on going. I frequently regret not have the perspicacity to take a picture of it.

That's okay, omiewise, someone else did.

All those pictures of possums are mighty cute! Florida possoms are kind of ugly.

Two things the article doesn't tell you about possums: they smell funky, and they have forked penises/dual-channeled vaginas. That's why they haven't changed much in the last bazillion years: no cross-breeding with other species.
