03 October 2005

i've been clenching my teeth for two days -- it is not only unpleasant but will eventually cause the wings of my vertebra to grate my muscles:
amuse me

How low do you want me to go?

Get drunk and listen to Orbital.

beyond that, I suggest Mushrooms. Harsher then crack, but much more fun (not that I've ever tried crack or anything, thats just what people say)

mushrooms never got me closer than almost
and if i could get mushrooms i'd prpbably have a car and be scaring me3dia

alcohol is not helping the gritting
but all the music is

posted by amberglow 03 October | 23:27
not for ages really
but i'm not in the mood
that may be the problem
posted by ethylene 03 October | 23:30
Wow, eth, I haven't read such a common theme of near wretchedness in one person's posts over a span of a few short hours in quite some time. Seriously, chica, get some help, ok? There's no reason for you to be unhappy to the point of self-destructiveness.

I'm worried about you.
posted by Frisbee Girl 03 October | 23:31
oh fris, you worry too much

there is a prime difference between thinking life should always be shiny and swell and accepting most of life is at best an endurance test

i'm generally a very benevolent and civil person dealing with extreme people and circumstances, and so sometimes want to not have to have the barrier protection of a calm and harmless facade

while things do and have sucked, it's not suppose to rub off on anyone, as that helps me not at all.

i thought i kept it rather on the qt, sorry.
posted by ethylene 03 October | 23:39
Fuck being happy and shiny all the time, sometimes things suck and your body just hurts. That teeth clenching thing can totally sneak up on you, lady. My mother let it slip for a long time and it made her go temporarily deaf, gave her horrible and incessant headaches and made most everything else worse for some length of time in her life.

You can't control you environment all the time, but you can get some help, ya know? Even a goofy looking mouth guard or something would be better than being in a bunch of pain.
posted by Frisbee Girl 03 October | 23:58
if i was a regular clencher or in dire pain, would i be typing?
oh, frisbee, you think so little of me
*sigh*
i'm not gettin TMJ, i was just bleeding off stress
now i'm going to read magazines in bed
please send floral arrangements and gifts
especially in the case of timely demise
posted by ethylene 04 October | 00:04
Or maybe I think that much of you. In any event, I am thinking of you.

Hugs and a firm smack on the ass. I'll go find a floral arrangement for you.
posted by Frisbee Girl 04 October | 00:09
oooh, get one of those horseshoe things that you only see on tv?

; >

eth, we're here, and i'm queer...you wallow all you want...i'm terribly stressed too, but it's going to my stomach and bad sleep and not my teeth.
posted by amberglow 04 October | 01:07
It doesn't rub off, ethylene, it just lightens the load.

posted by puddinghead 04 October | 01:41
Evidently I really meant that (I did).
posted by puddinghead 04 October | 01:42
I friggin hate that.

Arrived at dinner tonight with a pain in my jaw and in my head from the same thing. Some people carry stress in their shoulders; some in their faces. It gets so I can't relax my jaw without physically taking it in hand and massaging it. The actual grating, though, a girlfriend said I started years and years ago, when in training to be an air traffic controller. Dentist says I've lost a third of my molar height to it, so I feel for you!

Can you beg, trade, or buy a massage?
posted by dreamsign 04 October | 05:11
Are you an air traffic controller? It's probably not all that, but I find that extremely interesting.

I don't grind my teeth. Right now I feel like I grind my eyes, though.

I hope it gets better soon, ethylene.

Is this close enough, amberglow?
posted by deborah 04 October | 13:01
look, i have stress
lots of stress
when it gets inhumanly bad, the back of my neck will turn into solid rock or my guts attack me or something will physically go kerflooey
it's what happens when a body has to process unreasonable amounts of stress over long periods of time
i'm just having a particularly rough spot that has just, hopefully, moved on from teeth clenching "ready for battle" phase and get on with every other thing that needs to be survived.
should things get to someplace where i am in a position to reasonably ask for help, maybe i'll be the first mechat orphan for you to adopt--
i know you all mean well but i'm so awfully tired.
so very tired

No. Spent one year doing it. Hated it more than any other job. Every morning there would be this second of happiness before I remembered what I had to go do, then I would say out loud "I hate this. I hate my life." For six months after I quit, I would wake up thinking I had to go there, realize, then experience pure bliss. Great pay, but you're really just moving metal. Some get off on the pressure, though. Ever see "Pushing Tin"? They did their research. It's really like that.

Figured out why the jaw clenching lately, though. Jackhammering during construction of a new building across from ours. Very loud in other offices but in mine just like someone lightly pounding in a nail. For eight hours a day. Thought I wasn't bothered by it, but when I get away from the building, my jaw relaxes and hurts.

Massage, ethylene!! A little pampering has never hurt anyone.
posted by dreamsign 04 October | 21:06
good, send pampering via comic books from the last half decade or more and delicacies to encourage me to eat.

i'd post old rh songs i don't have on my hard drive but let's just say i was stuck in a lift and i feel better in a lurgee way

i endure the common fate to but endure
tis a common malady
