01 October 2005

Signups are officially open for National Novel Writing Month 2005 (otherwise known as NaNoWriMo). Thousands of amateur authors (and a few pros as well) will spend November attempting to write a 50,000 word novel in thirty days.[More:]I have participated in the past and managed to crank out some supremely bad writing. I've decided to take the plunge again this year. Anyone else thinking of giving it a go? Maybe we can encourage one another.
I'm having a lot of trouble connecting to the site. I'd love to try again, though my best effort so far exploded at around 11,000 words.

Yeah, I think it's getting slammed right now with signups. Either that or their server picked a bad time to 'splode. It was working nice and quick until right after I posted. Figures. ;)

I've written my next nine novels in advance.

What can I say, I'm an insomniac.

Wow, it's almost November again.

Missed this last year. Am definitely going to give it a go this year.

Ooops! Opening day server problems explained:

Welcome to day one of National Novel Writing Month here at ground zero.

One of our webservers blew up under the load of the crush of the humanity.

We're in the process of moving things to a new server, and we'll be reconfiguring our infrastructure to be a little more resilient in the future.

It will probably be a bumpy ride for the next few days, but we'll get it together...

I wonder how many NaNoWriMo novels were published?

Please donate, and keep NaNoWriMo going strong!

This year, we're setting aside half our net proceeds to build children's libraries in Laos.

Our Goal:
$110,000

Current amount
$62

I know of a few authors that have gotten their NaNoWriMo novels published but I'd say 99% of us know that we are never going to have a book on the shelves and participate because it's fun.

I'm fairly certain that a new fund is established every year which means that that sixty-two dollars was gathered in the hour the site was up after new user signups were announced. NaNoWriMo particpants have donated thousands and thousands of dollars to charity over the years.

I'm thinking about doing this, actually. I've recently freed my laptop up from a beasty who was taking control; and this is truly the November for me to give it a shot. I figure it won't hurt the comix to take a month off and attempt a novel, in fact it could produce some material for use in the other medium. I haven't committed yet, but LeeJay and dreamsign you should keep us/me posted. I might be joining in the fray.

I did this in 2001. It was a wonderful sense of accomplishment. I just picked up a cheap used AlphaSmart word processor, so I think I'm in for another round. The world can't have too many ripoffs of Victorian novels.
