I was messing with this online typing test and afterward, it had a link to the worlds fastest typer, who can maintain 150 wpm for 50 minutes! They also had a list of the 100 faster typers of the week.[More:]
I'm not in there btw, I got 49 words a minute. Still should be good enough to test out of keyboarding class, though.
63 in Fishing in Finland. I think I was helped by the fact I was talking to a girl from Finland at the time, so my mind was all Finlandy going into the thing.

Also, I learned backspace is my friend because I don't realize mistakes until three words later. What does that equal in lost productivity, America?

Interesting. It said I typed 47 words per minute, but that I had 48 errors, for a net of 0. But I only made two errors that I wasn't able to correct.

Weird.

96 wpm with no errors on a couple of the tests. It's been a while, but the first college scholarship I earned was for my typing skills, in some secretarial competition.

Standard issue computer keyboards like this one suck for fast typing, though. I miss the feel of my big, heavy, old Olivetti. Or barring that, one of the tank-like, sharply tiered, clicky IBM keyboards.

I can keep TyperShark going almost indefinitely, but sometimes you get a swarm of pirranha that's just about impossible. Something about that game really breeds tension, too - I see a bunch of white pirannha coming at you and get an honest-to-goodness "oh *!@#" feeling that's really uncommon in computer games for me.

Net result 27 wpm, 75% accuracy. I now know what eutrophication means.

94 wpm net, with 98% accuracy, but I'm out of practice. Back in the days when I was selling myself as an office temp, I was certified to 110 at 98% or 104 at 100% which attracted good work.

I was, however, sent to an 8-hour conference to record everything said and it was a nightmare. I was a bundle of hurting muscle afterward, from the tension. People would talk out of turn, and of course talk at normal speed. Stupid thing to do. They should have had a recorder there and transcription afterward, but for some reason wanted it right away.

76 WPM, 97% accuracy.
I suspect the keyboard on my lap instead of a normal computer desk is throwing me off.

Oh, and the bloody mary I'm drinking.

92 WPM, 98% accuracy. There's no way I could keep that up for more than a few minutes, though.

(On one hand, I'm using one of the IBM Model M keyboards that Wolfdog alluded to (and it feels exactly like the Selectrics I first learned to type on). On the other, I, too, am drinking.)

Jesus. You people kicked my ass. Has anyone used the Dvorak Keyboard? Experiences?

I tried the Dvorak layout many years ago.

I quickly got used to typing English words on it (was at about 90% on text within a week) but had trouble with keyboard shortcuts. The keyboard shortcut issues were bad enough that I switched back.
