22 September 2005

Note to Firefox users: You should look to upgrade to 1.0.7 as soon as you can as a nasty exploit is currently out there.
This has been a public service announcement
More details here.

I guess it's time to do a full re-install of Windoze on my computer at home, then, because I can't upgrade FireFox without crashing the whole thing for some bizarre reason.

*once again considers jumping ship to *nix*

Argh. Just like last time I find the button that says check for updates and it says everything is hunky-dory and peachy-keen. I had to go the the website to download it directly.

* grumble freakin' frackin' grumble *

Thanks, dodgy!

yeah, whats up with that? This is the second time I've had to manually upgrade firefox for a security update. The update feature should do that.

The auto-update will work when they release 1.5, they had some bugs to work out (obviously).

Thanks for the heads up!

The update will roll out so that your browser gets the little red icon. They just don't turn it on for the general public right away, because their servers would get hammered. (It's also a sort of final public beta. If they got too many crash reports back, they could conceivably pull the release.) When your browser doesn't have the notification, the dot-circle icon just takes you to the Firefox homepage.

As of 1.5 (formerly 1.1) there will be a new smart update feature that will use deltas, so you won't have to install the whole thing every time.

Anyone know if this affects the 1.5 beta version of firefox. Hmm... Time for a nightly build I think.
