A Little Miracle: the power went out... Share a small miracle that happened to you today.[More:]Today started with little sleep. Someone spilled my only daily cup of coffee, and I had to deal with disaster after disaster at work. Then, the power went out. My afternoon class was cancelled. 20 minutes later power came back on, leaving me a free hour or so to goof around. My whole day has been brightened by this.
I was fiddling around with the coax cable and wrenched my shoulder pretty bad, which was the capper to a really awful day. The pain was excruciating, and I seriously thought I was going to hurl and/or pass out. I spent about 15 minutes sitting on the floor with my head between my knees making inarticulate grunting/screaming sounds of pain.

Just a couple of minutes into that experience my kitty hears me, wakes up, and comes and licks my face to make it all better until it was all better. She's not a kitty who licks her master; she's never done that before. It was so sweet it made me cry. Well, that and the really really bad pain.

cool, 2x....cats are weird--she must have known that it was serious
-- or that without you, there's no food or something. ; >

Cats rule the earth, they just (grudgingly) let us think we do.

Little miracle: I was craving something sweet but didn't have anything around, when a delivery from Staples came containing a huge box of individually wrapped Swedish Fish.

Cats: I used to make this distressed kitten noise that would make my cat come running and start nuzzling my face, and she was not an affectionate cat. I didn't do it very often, though, because she always seemed so worried.

My back pain has abated enormously since the pebble pissing. I feel like a urinary Charlie Brown: "I peed a rock."

Well, it's 5:45pm and nothing bad has happened. That's good, right?

You're assuming, Deborah. Never assume.

Our AC went out on Saturday night, which in an Austin September heat wave is a big deal. Of course the land lord can't get anybody out until Monday morning, so Sunday night was spent sweaty above the sheets, refilling glasses of ice water until sleep came.

Monday comes and the guy gets here but our landlord is a cheapskate so he hired a guy who isn't licensed and has a day job. The guy's not real sure what's wrong with the unit, the clock is ticking until he has to go to work at the BBQ restaurant, finally he throws his hands up in despair and says he won't be able to come back until the next morning. Fine, an act of the god of unreliable AC units, what can I do? I retire inside where it's already heating up for the 100 degree day to come, cursing in my mind, dreading another night of stuffy hot tossing and turning.

Suddenly the guy reappears at my door, "Turn it on!" he says, and I do, and it works. It seems that as he was leaving a flash of inspiration hit him, he turned on his heels, fiddled his screwdriver in just such a way, hit the whosit compressor in just the right spot, and Voila! Cool air for the Bangerald clan!

Thank you god of unreliable AC units.

ahhh double good day for me - after dinner I saw a perfect double rainbow. I wish I had my camera with me - I would have shared my good day with all y'all.

nickdanger, is your landlord named Darrell?
posted by mudpuppie 19 September | 22:09
muddgirl - i go to scripps (small world!); unfortunately i didn't have a class at the time to get cancelled, but my laundry was delayed a little bit.

i wish i had looked up at the right time to see the rainbow(s). the sunset was gorgeous though...

Got given a whole bag of Danish Salte Fish. Not a miracle, and it happened yesterday, but I wanted to continue the Scandanavian Fish Theme.

I adore the liquorice goodnes of Salte Fish.

Hi, seanyboy!

Me? I had that storm I was telling y'all about. And, it truly was the weirdest storm... somebody called me this morning and was marvelling at it's wonderful strangeness as well. And today is so beautiful.

No, mudpuppie. Why? Are you an austinite with a quasi-flaky landlord, too?
