justify your answers: should i move the computer into the bedroom/book area or keep all my major electronics in the "living area" (there is now basic cable in the bedroom)
my near future sweating depends on your honest response
are those the only choices?

You live alone?

The bedroom is for reading, sleeping, and "doin' it". Keep the books and computer in the living room, and take a book in the bedroom as necessary.

Computer in the living room? What if someone else wants to watch tv? Is there someone else?

status quo. Why? It's the laziest easiest approach.

What interrobang said, although we have books in the bedroom & haven't had any problems. (Hell, we've got books in every room.) But the computer should definitely stay out of the boudoir.

What bmarkey said. Ive no electronics apart from my alarm clock in my bedroom. Computer, decks, teevee, stereo, klystron tube, all in the living room.

The living area as well.

What the person who posts after me said. I had my computer in my bedroom for a while, and I felt like I was in a dorm room.

Not that I have anything against dorm rooms.

I have most of my books in my bedroom. I have my computer in my bedroom. And my TV. And my DVD player and my CDs and I have almost no extra room in here because it is so packed. I have also noticed that my 21 inch monitor does a good job of heating my room up in summer so the air conditioner has trouble keeping it cool enough to sleep comfortably. But I am not moving the computer out of my bedroom because I like having it in here. I dislike living rooms and see the place where I sleep as my "living" room and anything I want to use frequently should be in there.

What's in your living room, then?
posted by JanetLand 14 September | 11:34
Living at mums = computer in bedroom (along with my electronics, telly, stereo etc... Yeah, just like a dorm but with moms fab cooking!)

Living with other people = computer in office - not in Bedroom. Not in livingroom either. Why? Because dude, I had an office.
posted by dabitch 14 September | 11:36
Living alone I had my computer in my bedroom as well as a small TV. However, living with someone, I'd never have a computer in the bedroom. I'm with dabitch - if you have an extra room make it into an office and put the 'puter there. Otherwise - keep it in the living room.

Books are another story - they belong everywhere.

Kill your computer.

Another vote for keeping the computer out of the bedroom. Justification: that's how I roll.

I say the kitchen. Technology is food, y'know...

this is how you justify?
some details:
the place is not large except by nyc standards.
in the living room i am making space for more messy and physical industries and things involving fire, water, space, toxins, broken glass, blah, whole most all the paper has migrated to the bedroom with most fabric and sewing supplies.
there is a large digital cable enabled tv in the living room and the answerphone.
if i put the computer in the bedroom, which has the more adequate air conditioner and immediate bathroom access) i then have music and a dvd [layer in the bedroom. there is a dvd player--

i just realized while writing this out why i'm not moving it. i don't smoke in the bedroom.
you people only have sex in the bedroom?
posted by ethylene 14 September | 20:08
Can't speak for anybody else, but I never said only in the bedroom, just that that's one of the uses thereof. ;)
posted by bmarkey 14 September | 20:27
sex, unlike stationary computers, can and should be in every room of the house.
