It looks almost backwards, or something. I mean, Reservoir Dogs and Donnie Darko were ok, but I don't see any aspect of them that should put them in the top 10, let alone 1 and 2.
I must admit that I didn't make it very far through the linked list (navigational weirdness)? I was disturbed, though, to see that the Blair Witch Project topped Grosse Point Blank.
It's a pity that Brazil has to be denied the "Independent" classification, considering it wasn't so much made with studio support as in spite of it. It is in every sense that has any meaning an independent film, and it would top my list.
Interrobang, Jim Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise is on there. (I only wish there was room for Down By Law as well!)
Incidentally: does his name pronounced "JAR-mush" or "jar-MOOSH"? I've heard it both ways over the years, but don't know if I've ever heard the great man himself ever say it.
Some good films on there but some shitasss ones as well. I would never put Usual Suspects, Cube, Shallow Grave, or Sideways on a "best of" anything list.
Films left off the list that I would include: Spanking the Monkey, Five Easy Pieces, Easy Rider, George Washington, A Woman Under the Influence, Keane, Clean Shaven, Zigrail, Trust, Laws of Gravity, Capturing the Friedmans...
Usual Suspects was important because it proved that you can make people love a 2-hour, convoluted snorefest as long as you give them something interesting in the last 5 minutes. Memory is short.
