Atheists for ID? In this AskMe thread,the user named Independent Scholarship makes the claim that "There are actually many ID people who do NOT believe in God." This was news to me:[More:] I agree that there are plenty of people who believe in the theory of intelligent design who are not fundamentalist creationists, but I've never heard of an ID supporting atheist. Does anybody have links to such an animal? The only thing I've been able to find so far is this unsupported assertion in an editorial by Joseph Farah, the editor/publisher of WorldNetDaily. I asked for some from Independent Scholarship but so far they haven't responded and there's no e-mail in their profile.
All I can think of off the top of my head are the people who think we were set up by aliens. Other than that, that poster's position is bunk.

Well, theoretically a pantheist or possibly panentheist might believe in intelligent design without believing in a sort of separate God-concept.

And I guess a Deist might believe that God created the universe and then died / ceased to exist, so you would then have an intelligently designed universe without God.

But I'm really stretching here. It doesn't seem to make much sense.

Doesn't make sense.

ID = Intelligent design.

The agency of intelligence can be termed 'God', even if the embodiment is left vague, i.e. instead of positing the Christian God, as this agent, 'God' may have other attributes.

If you posit the designer to be aliens, then the problem again arises for aliens, and so on.

You're right, Gyan. But there are a lot of people out there who self-identify as "atheists" and still have wacky theories about who they think put us here.

You can read my response over in that thread, but I think it's just flat out wrong. ID was created and is promoted by Christian creationists. There are no non-believer IDers.

Just another MetaTroll. People like that gave up all connection to reality long ago. Even AskMe is getting pre-empted by the con-men. Sad.

Hmm, I suppose if you're agnostic then you probably believe the world was designed while not believing in a specific god.

I mean the guy wrote God not god so I assume he means a christian god but what the hell do I know.

As a slight derail I keep wondering when a christian religion will come out in support of evolution. It's bound to happen some day...

What if you believe in aliens guiding evolution, e.g. 2001?
