Well, it works, but is it really necessary?

Necessary? Hardly. But you know, if you're someone who uses lots of different Google services on a regular basis then I guess it might be useful.

Before this I hadn't seen the Video search - so maybe other folk will see stuff they hadn't seen.

Notice something else: Google fixed what apple got wrong:

In OS X, with dock zooming on, the icons grow, sure, but they move out from under your cursor as you pass by. The end result is the click target is no bigger than the unzoomed-size icon.

In this version, Google keeps the icon zoomed, until you move off its edge. Thus the click target is as big as the zoomed-size icon. This actually makes the zooming usefull, instead of just eye candy, because you can swoop in and pick your target without much thought.

I wish apple would notice this distinction.
