What do these have in common? [More:]We could do harder ones than this; first I wanted to see if anyone was into it.
All car names? But is Yogi a car name?
posted by omiewise 26 August | 10:21
Maybe it's Lotus? Is that a car?
posted by matildaben 26 August | 10:25
Is a Lotus a car? Cripes, what kind of crazy talk is that?

posted by veedubya 26 August | 10:33
Yep, car names - Saturn Ford Jaguar Lotus. It's really hard to find non USA car names that are actual, google-able words, so I didn't have much to work with. Here's another one, again, not too hard....I'm working on a harder one. Feel free to try one...they're fun.

(baseball) Diamond, (artichoke) Heart, (David) Spade, (war) Club - cards!

Man, am I bad at these.
posted by selfnoise 26 August | 10:47
I'm sticking with Yogi.
posted by omiewise 26 August | 10:54
Here's another.

omiewise, I drove a Yogi once. Really great gas mileage.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 10:58
I wonder if there is a car called The Gerald.
posted by carter 26 August | 11:17
Elements. neon, tin, mercury...californium?
posted by Smart Dalek 26 August | 11:22
Yep - elements. Neon, tin, mercury, iron. He's doing extreme ironing. I like californium...hee.

Here's another one. The answer's not movies.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 11:25
My answer? Snowboard deck makers:

"Happy Hooker" - Lovelady Powell (Powell Peralta)
"Sleepy Hollow" - Tim Burton (Jake Burton)
What's Up, Doc?"/Ryan O'Neal - (Hilaree O'Neil)
"Grumpy Old Men" - Burgess Meredith (Paul Burgess)
posted by Smart Dalek 26 August | 11:43
Isn't Burgess Meredith dead? God, if he isn't he must be 300 years old. Was he in Grumpy Old Men?

Wow what a great guess! But wrong. As a purist, the O'Neal/O'Neil thing wouldn't work.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 11:50
Wow !! you guys are crazy..

Can we get some simple ones please ?
posted by anonetal 26 August | 12:25
Dwarves!
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 12:30
Yes! Doc, Sleepy, Grumpy, and Happy.

Don't have another one done yet - will work on it as soon as I can. Mmm someone else can jump in here any time though ;)
posted by iconomy 26 August | 12:34
What do they have in common?
posted by iconomy 26 August | 12:44
Flowers, right?
posted by Hugh Janus 26 August | 12:45
Right you are. Are they too easy?
posted by iconomy 26 August | 12:48
Geez I guess so - it only took you a minute to get the answer.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 12:50
Actually, I couldn't figure out the tv show (yo soy Luddite) and the bond issue, but the iris and (ahem) that ass, were dead giveaways.
posted by Hugh Janus 26 August | 12:51
Strike that superfluous comma!
posted by Hugh Janus 26 August | 12:53
It was iris, rose (Rose McGowan), stock, and daisy. Very good guess then!
posted by iconomy 26 August | 13:05
Stock? That's what I said in my head, but I crossed it off, not knowing it was a flower.
posted by Hugh Janus 26 August | 13:09
Try these... (maybe too easy)
posted by wendell 26 August | 13:22
Wow not to me...I have no idea (yet).
posted by iconomy 26 August | 13:27
Here's one, also maybe too easy.
posted by taz 26 August | 13:35
Wendell, is yours drugs? Crack, horse, grass... er, pirate?
posted by taz 26 August | 13:42
Here's my one.
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 13:51
a clue for wendell's that may be absolutely no help: all now part of a single company
posted by wendell 26 August | 13:53
dodgy, yours wouldn't have something to do with the Beatles, would it?
posted by wendell 26 August | 13:55
Beatles songs? That's a good puzzle.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 13:55
Arrrr curses, foiled again. And speaked of arrrr, I just scored some 'pirate' yesterday, and it was very good stuff.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 13:56
Too easy huh
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 13:57
I just realized my puzzle may be a little too US-centric.

Final clue: something I may do here in the Pacific Time Zone in about an hour.
posted by wendell 26 August | 14:04
Here's another one.
posted by taz 26 August | 14:07
fast food? Taco Bell, Kentucky (fried chicken), Pizza Hut, ... er, pirate?
posted by taz 26 August | 14:10
taz, that was "Long John Silver", a chain of Fish & Chips places owned by the same paernt company as the other three...
posted by wendell 26 August | 14:11
ok taz, Miliary Titles? Drum Major, ???, Captain Kirk, Colonel Sanders?
posted by wendell 26 August | 14:13
Do another one!

If only taz's didn't have eminem in it, I would say things in the sky. Maybe it's things that are high, which is why she thinks of grass, horse, and crack.

So clouds, birds, bees, and eminem...things that are high. That's my guess and I'm sticking to it.

Wendell, that was too esoteric for me, but good one! When I do it, the whole answer is in the photo, so I was thinking you did it the same as me. Like, I wouldn't make the leap from bell to taco bell, because I'm thinking just bell...the answer must be bell. Obviously I have to expand my horizons. Taz is good at this.

On preview - good one wendell! And taz! General, Major, Captain, Colonel. Awesome.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 14:15
Have to go to lunch now, will think of more puzzles and do more as soon as I get back. These are fun.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 14:18
Yes wendell, military titles! "General Foods" is the second.

Nope, not things that are high, ico, though that's a good guess!
posted by taz 26 August | 14:20
Taz's first: letters -- C (sea), J (jay), B (quilting bee), M (eminem).
posted by me3dia 26 August | 14:53
wendell's latest: cccp, cook, kook, coon?
posted by me3dia 26 August | 14:55
#3 from me: extra points for naming ALL 6 'things'

And one more clue for #2 and #2A... I almost didn't show it because it was so close to another puzzle... BUT MORE SPECIFIC (and also extra points for naming the individual 'things')
posted by wendell 26 August | 14:55
(I don't know how this got lost, but...)
a continuation of my 2nd... the one me3 just got wrong
posted by wendell 26 August | 14:59
Back in the USSR, Martha My Dear, Helter Skelter, and Rocky Raccoon? Or is there more?

*goes to look*
posted by iconomy 26 August | 15:01
Here's another one from me while I look. I have to go back and find all the ones no one's guessed yet!
posted by iconomy 26 August | 15:03
Ah, I'm not much of a Beatles fan (not that I hate them, just not that into them) so all that went right over my head.
posted by me3dia 26 August | 15:04
wendell - that second one is saying white album to me. Martha, Rocky Racoon, Back In The USSR, and of course Manson was a big fan of the White Album and that's why his gang daubed Piggies walls
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 15:04
Too late
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 15:05
I get Happy Birthday and Number 9, and maybe Penny Lane? But I don't know the other one.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 15:07
Blackbird and uh..
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 15:08
[searches IMDB]

ah yes, Julia
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 15:09
another one.
posted by taz 26 August | 15:23
hats?
posted by dodgygeezer 26 August | 15:25
Ah, the White Album, such a rich vein of material... I could've done "Piggies", "Happiness is a Warm Gun"... and the Manson picture was a maybe-not-direct-enough reference to "Helter Skelter".

Now, what about #3? Ain't it obvious?
posted by wendell 26 August | 15:28
Yes, hats!
posted by taz 26 August | 15:35
Wendell, I'm so lost with your last puzzle. And don't forget mine.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 15:55
I'm talking about MY #3.
posted by wendell 26 August | 15:56
I know. I have 3/4 of it can't get one part. The part with the map.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 15:58
Comics -
Mutt and Jeff
Barney Google
Peanuts
Blondie and Dagwood

But I can't get the map one or the little pic. Help!
posted by iconomy 26 August | 16:00
the map is of a Canadian Province... the little picture is of the famous inventor of a sport...
posted by wendell 26 August | 16:16
if I want to be picky, the title is just "Blondie" and these are all OLD comics...
posted by wendell 26 August | 16:18
Hmmm...I can name all the provinces but I don't know of a comic strip with the same name as one of them. I only know of James Naismith, for the sports inventor. I'm sure I'm going to kick myself when I hear the answers though...
posted by iconomy 26 August | 16:33
okay further clues: initials and picture size... (hee hee hee)
posted by wendell 26 August | 16:43
Argh - B.C.! No way I could get these without clues - your puzzles are fiendish! I love it. And the other one is....Little someone? I can't think of it.

You're good at this, wendell.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 16:55

posted by wendell 26 August | 19:07
mudpupp: Sam the Eagle? Big Bird!!! Animal? Gonzo!!!
posted by wendell 26 August | 19:08
Whoa the muppet one - brilliant!

Mud, I don't know what any of the things are in the photo...hee. 'Cept Bush, of course. The first one, is that something being melted in a spoon? Zat a lighter underneath? I was thinking coffee, then meth, then heroin. And I have no idea what's in the other two. Will keep staring until my eyeballs dry out tho.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 19:09
No one guessed my last one yet, either.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 19:16
Sam the Eagle.
posted by mudpuppie 26 August | 19:19
Ico, you're on the right track with heroin. You just need to find some slang for it.
posted by mudpuppie 26 August | 19:21
yes, muddie, I know Sam the Eagle, but the picture I used was a Google Image Search result for BIG BIRD. (And look atthe buildings in the background... that's a BIG BIRD!)
posted by wendell 26 August | 19:29
Iconomy, your last one has me totally stumped. Hint?
posted by mudpuppie 26 August | 19:29
Sure - the answer is that the same word comes after each thing. Like if pictures may, barber, and fishing were used, the answer would be pole.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 19:32
Ray?
posted by mudpuppie 26 August | 19:51
Yep ;) Sugar Ray, Death Ray, Sting Ray, Devil Ray.
posted by iconomy 26 August | 20:00
Meanwhile, Wendell's #6

help me! I can't stop! help me! stop me!

And both of icon's have me massively stumped.
posted by wendell 26 August | 20:00
Haha you are addicted now and there is nothing you can do about it!

Your link doesn't work?
posted by iconomy 26 August | 20:24
okay, link fixed for #6.
posted by wendell 26 August | 21:09
No one wants to do mine? :(
posted by mudpuppie 26 August | 21:37
I tried, but since I have no idea what's in the 2nd or the 3rd photos, it was kinda hard ;)
