Shit. I didn't know this was an internet meme. Wouldn't have used it otherwise.

I *heart* that link. I really, really do. Especially when I get home a little earlier from work than usual.

What gets me, really fucking pulls at my strings, is the beleauguered tone of the responses the COFSM has received from the Kansas School Board.

My dad grew up in Chicago in the forties and fifties. He told me about coming home from college one year to hear my grandmother railing against the creationists, who were trying to destroy what our founding fathers had so carefully wrought.

"C'mon, mom, everybody believes in evolution. Creationism is just for lip service in Sunday School. That day is done."

She cast him a portentious look and said, quite seriously, "You have no idea. Be ready to fight them. They won't stop."

Now, my grandmother was known in the family for her deadpanning (and kookiness), so my dad laughed and forgot about it until ten or so years ago. Now he subscribes to Church and State and heeds his mother's words. Would that we all did.

It reminds me of my great-uncle (mom's side) describing being a parole officer in South Side Chicago in the 40's and early 50's. All the gang violence and shootings he talked about seem so out-of-place against the backdrop history gives us. But the bullets were flying, even then.

Never thought I'd write all that on a thread entitled "Flying Spaghetti Monsterism." Thanks.
