I am right there behind you jrossi.

(Well, not RIGHT behind you. More like over to the side)

i never heard of simony--weird.

Didn't know simony, but my favorite obscure crime is actually called "mayhem" -- whereby you are charged with "rendering a person unfit for battle" (the classic case involved poking a soldier in the eye with finger the night before a mission).

I just like the name. If I were to be charged with anything, I'd want it to be mayhem.

mayhem sounds like a good one--is there a bedlam?

Isn't bedlam a corruption of "Bethlehem", and a reference to an asylum with that word in the name? (he said, without even resorting to Google).

One and the same. The hospital was called variously Bethlem, Bethlehem, and Bedlam.

Not a crime as far as I know. Fill yer boots!

but a crime named that would be cool.

"Mr. Smith, you are hereby charged with bedlam in the first degree. How do you plead?"

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

Order! Order!

My husband was once charged with "violent and tumultuous behavior." We're still not sure what he did that was "tumultuous."

But you're sure it was violent?

That reminds me of our SCC's words on the death penalty with regard to whether it is "cruel and unusual behaviour" -- it's cruel, but not terribly unusual.

It wasn't very violent. His friend got into a barfight and my husband broke it up by throwing the aggressor in a dumpster, which effectively neutralized the situation.

"contributing to the delinquency of a minor" sounds to me like something you'd use PayPal for...
