Who wants to collaborate on something for the new metachat book? Looks like Frisbee Girl and myself are in. Also, does anyone have any suggestions on what we all could realistically collaborate on?
I'd like to take part in a collaborative writing project.

But what? What could we do?
I need ideas.

Maybe some sort of collection? For example, I saw a site the other day that was collecting "Worst (job) interview qustions"... and then later I ran into the something similar with job interview questions, but it was Worst Question/Best Answer:

Q. "What is your greatest weakness?"

A. "Kryptonite."

So it could be something like collecting answers to a specific query, or solutions to a specific problem, etc., and then perhaps organizing the information into funny or interesting subheadings... or something along these lines.

Collective fiction usually sucks butt, or I would say somthing like an exquisite corpse story. But perhaps playing with an exquisite corpse non-fiction thing might be interesting. The goal would be to produce some sort of informational article, with facts and statistics, etc., but each person only gets the last sentence of the previous player, and they have to try to follow the theme as well as they can. Even if not for the book, that could be a fun little experiment to try!

or...

→ A FAQ for a fictional product or service.

→ A Modern Bestiary or A "X" Bestiary (descriptive, wherein "X" could be MeFi, Daters, Office, whatever).

→ A smart, funny How-To (here's a great one).

→ Some kind of mashup? Remember the great Family Circus/Lovecraft things? (I saved a list of links for mr. taz). All with non-copyrighted stuff though, so that would be a challenge.

I'm in for a fictional round robin. I've done a lot of them successfully with other writers, so I know it can be done...should anyone else want to give a go.

How bout using this thread as the epigraph and then waiting a year and asking quonsar to write the introduction? Then you are on your own.

I like the idea of a round robin or exquisite corpse, fictional or non-fictional. Oooh, that would be fun.

Can I illustrate for it? I suck at writing, really, but I can still draw purdy good.

Ooooh, that would be cool, dabitch!

OK. Still stuck for where to go with this, but thought I'd drop a quick note in so people didn't think I'd disappeared. I think that the more collaborative the better. If everyone contributes one small piece to a larger article, it'll just be a lot of articles about the same thing. The idea of twenty people writing about what there worst interview was sounds good, but it wouldn't be collaborative.

However, I did a thing a while back where a load of us got together and wrote a page on our favourite things which we printed in a pamphlet and that worked out well. A lot of the pages were hand drawn, and it looked great. I wish i could find it.

Round Robin fiction may suck ass, but I think the point of this should be to have fun.

So, working my way through it, I think both ideas are good, but the first thing we need to do is get started. I've created a basecamp site http://metachat.seework.com that we can use. email me to add you onto the list.

OK. Added some people to the site.
Anyone else that wants in, please email me at the address on my profile.

we could do Exquisite Corpse fiction too, where each person only sees the last 3-6 words of the previous person.

i want in. : >
