Mr. Billy Joe Shaver This song (via rapidshare, scroll down, click "free" and follow direstions, rapidshare is too slow) is one of a select few songs that can make me openly weep. I recently learned it was written after his son died of a drug overdose, making it even more resonant. I also use it people who say they hate country music. It's brought many people around.
ack! I meant to type "yousendit is too slow." don't mind me. My net access was down for a coupla days because (no shit) squirrels chewed through the cables outside.

Wow, jon, high praise indeed. I'm on vacation and on the slowest dial up on the planet, but I'll certianly check it out as soon as I'm home. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good song. Do you know Crossing Muddy Waters? John Hiatt wrote it after his wife committed suicide - it makes me cry like a baby.

John Hiatt is one of my songwriting heroes, MGL. "Buffalo River Home," is one of my all time favorites by him. You might like "Where's Johnny,"(same drill download-wise) by James McMurtry (son of novelist Larry McMurtry) which is similarly moving.

That kicked about 11 kinds of ass.

But then, I been drinkin' again.

This is country music, staverino. Drinking is not only permitted, it's compulsory.

Did you get both songs, BTW?

Oh I'm an old James McMurtry fan. I go see him any time he's in town and I have his picture up on my bedroom wall. I even signed up for myspace so I could join his fan club but then I chickened out.
