meta:AnonAskMe Seems I miss all the interesting AskMe's, so what was this one really about? "question about finding a phone number in the corner of the house"? Que?[More:] This seems to be a perfect thread for Mefiosos to ask Mechatters about all those threads that vanish........
Heh...I knew a thread would come up here about it.

Anon said something like:

I found a scrap of paper with a woman's name and number on it in a high traffic area of the house. I asked my SO if it was his and he said no. What am I too make of this? Is he cheating?

I am very much paraphrasing (and maybe they were a little bit more on an unfounded suspicion angle).

But the way it was written was that this person had become highly suspicious for no good reason -- at least no good reason was supplied in their question.

Hence, many of the responses questioned their paranoia/trust levels and suggested that the scrap of paper was of minor importance given their suspiciousness.

That's how I understood/read it all anyway.

Ask Metafilter at your own risk. Where did it come from I wonder?

aha, so that's what happened, thanks peacay. Wonder if that was the first time an anon askme has been removed at the request of anon?

I was wondering that too dabitch. I guess they feel a bit defensive and although I don't think I would call the answers abuse or the like - but they were often a bit pointy (as loquacious would say).

And I answered in agreement that it was a bit much on the non-trust angle. If my SO asked the same question, I'm sure I could truthfully say it wasn't mine if I didn't remember - gawd, we all collect billions of notes and numbers - but telling the truth doesn't amount to lying or hiding anything. It's strange for that to be the first port of call when trying to work out where it originated.

Maybe anon was feeling a bit silly. Jumping to conclusions isn't good, and there is a difference between a scribbled ink number on the back of a receipt and a lipliner number on the back of a beercoaster. ;))

So THAT's where that came from! Sorry I haven't called, dabitch, I hardly remember that night, but I think it was fun!

(Strangely, the "more inside" link on this post is giving me a server error, but I can read it just fine if I click on the comments.)

Yeah, it's one of those questions that's far more likely to get a voice of reason response than a conspiracy theory one. I'd wager Mr./Mrs. Anon asked Matt to pull it.

(...and now the "Read more" link works just fine. Odd.)

The thread about the thread that was deleted is closed to new comments. I think I should start a thread about the thread about the thread and see how long it goes before being closed or deleted.

In the original askme, I presented a plausible scenario whereby a guy would want to have a person's phone number but didn't want his wife to know: if he is looking at a new car, or a piece of jewelry, he may not want to spill the beans at that point and would feign ignorance.

I didn't question the trust I don't think, but there was an implication along those lines.
