I would like to hear music not picked out by MeChatters, but written by 'em. Got it? Bring it!
<techno> Here's one I did. It's not properly mixed down or finished or anything, really more of a sketch. It's using remapped audio-spectrum samples of the High Altitude Auroral Reasarch Program radio frequencies as texture and structure samples. It sounds like old offbeat acid techno, similar to Coil's Snow EP or Windowpane - but nowhere near as good. I like the synth line melodies. It's called "HAARP Fan" because of the sample source, and because bits of it were inspired by and/or sound like an old oscillating desk fan I was using at the time.
Here's a cut-and-paste slice and dice remix I did of a track my friend did. This was edited entirely in Windows Sound Recorder, with beat matching and quantization eyeballed. Err, earballed. It came out quite nice considering that. His band is/was called Bassland, they've toured all over the place and are famous for their improv live PA sets. I really liked the track, a lot, but it wasn't long enough.

I'm supposed to set up my new band's site this weekend, and I've since removed the page that used to house earlier efforts now that I'm no longer fishing for collaborators. We'll be playing shows in nyc soon, too, or is that: too soon?
I'll see if I can speed up the process and post something here later.
loquacious - Nice pieces. They remind me of a fair amount of the music that's played on Deep Mix or the Thinner/Autoplate stations/websites. Think I'll put these on rotation on my computer at work here. :)
sop: i really like! (search thru my posting history at mefi for this international lullaby music site i posted a while ago, on the longest night of the year--the indonesian ones you'd love i think, and others)
drez: ditto (a little rough for my wimpy tastes tho)
tom: also ditto (great smart folky thing (and Beautiful Southish too, i think, which i love) : >
melissa: mwahh! i love your stuff (you know)
deepfried: it has a great beat, and it's fun to dance to--i give it an 86 ; >
I was listening to my music and this great song came on that I didn't wholly recognize the artist. Turns out it was Wasting Our Time by James Leroy (which I enjoyed on my first listen, put into rotation, and had it turn up for the first time again a few moments ago).
Sadly, I'm waaayyy behind on my efforts mentioned upthread.
OK. This one is for those of you who read MetaChat by recent comments (I sometimes do): here's a quasi-temporary link to some mp3s of bands I've been in. Your humble commenter, me, is merely the bassist in all efforts.
I never really finished the site for the new band: Division of Planes, things have been too busy (writing material for the upcoming shows, of course). Gawd, don't you just love temporary holding pages...? It's on the way, I swear. The internet abounds with my false-starts. Cheers.
