Where're the bag hags at? In the spirit of Specklet's shoe post, ladies and bag carrying men, how many bags you got? What kinds? Which is your favorite? Am I the only one who gets really silly and stupid when it comes to bags?
One under each eye, I'm so outta here (work, that is).

I have a medium sized Manhattan Portage bike bag, black; I use that 99% of the time. I have an Anne Tylor little black bag for when I get dressed up, a red leather bag (Cole Haan?) that I never use, and an old black purse that looks like your mom's. I also have an orange silk Indian thing and a brown silk thing with embroidered chrysanthemums, neither of which I use very often.

I crave a red Kate Spade bag, both a small one and a bigger tote.

I have a ton of bags, too! Just this past week or so I've gotten a denim messenger bag (which is a knock of of the Louis Vuitton Speedy denim bag), a black leather attache kind of a bag, a quilted floral vintage-looking backpack, and a brown leather embossed shoulder bag, which would SO GREAT with the Tony Lama boots that I want. Sigh.

I'm so proud of my daughter. For her college graduation gift (she's only going to be a soph but is thinking ahead) she wants a Hermes bag that costs about 3000.00. I can't remember what it's called...their spy bag, maybe? I'm sure mrs.pants will know...

She said she wants a classic bag that she'll use forever (and of course I will be borrowing it on occasion!).

Contrary to what you all might think, I don't spend a lot of money on myself. Clothes pretty much bore me, I cut my own hair, never get manicures or pedis or any of that other girly stuff. And no jewelry. But I do loves my shoes and bags. Unlike Specklet though, my game is to try to find the stuff I like as cheaply as possibly - that's part of the fun!

iconomy is it the hermes birkin or kelly bag? Both are pretty classic and classy looking, I almost bought a knockoff to add to my fake "I might be a lawyer" bags.

I'll ask her when she calls me later - you know your bags!

posted by Mrs.Pants 03 August | 18:17
either small messenger/bookbag style or daypack (but more stylish than jansport)

i love those ones made from recycled billboards and ads.

I have one of these. My mother got it for free at a quilting conference of some sort, and I love it.

this Jack Spade in black would be cool, but it's way way too expensive
posted by amberglow 03 August | 18:53
Holy shit! 500 bucks for a bag? Does it come stuffed with jewels?
posted by interrobang 03 August | 18:54

these are fun and every street fair has had them but they're not sturdy enough, and not in the right shapes. and (click on custom bags) these freitags are gorgeous

I have a messenger bag formerly belonging to my ex.

The shoulder strap recently came off so I had to "sew" it back on.

Ok, I'll come out. I deal strictly in vintage (ie, the bags of dead grandmas featured in tag sales and shady antique stores).

Collection highlights:
40s/50s era
black patent handbag with a red bakelite handle and clasp w/ matching coin purse (my favorite)
metallic silver box purse (in honor of my grandma's)
tiny foxy red jeweled clutch

60s/70s era
black leather clutch with groovy silver hoop handles
vinyl pop art shopping bag designed to resemble a lemon wedge
black satin evening bag dotted with mirrors -- pretty AND a potential weapon

Always on the lookout for:
those wonderful 70s vinyl purses with plastic windows in the front for tiny dolls -- they used to be sold at Brach's candy store and I think they came full of chocolates!
anything with cowgirls
structured bags -- the more 50s the better! Even fake leopard...yes I am that shameless.

Damn those are adorable. I love bags but I usually just get something and carry it until it falls apart. Now I have my orange KEXP messenger bag I got with a membership pledge one year. It gets a few comments, plus sometimes local merchant discounts if I forgot my KEXP membership card.

In college, no one carried a purse. Except this one girl who everyone called "purse girl." I've never gotten over that mentality. I've got a few fancy ones and vintage ones for special occasions, but generally I just carry my wallet with a tiny flat lipgloss/eyeliner set in it.

Jrossi is not fashionable, but she is low maintenance.

Melissa may--your bags sound awesome. I swear I've seen the clear window ones recently at a kids' store. If I figure out where, I'll let you know.

i'll keep an eye out, melissa : >

thanks folks! I really do crave those little purses...

I would like to reiterate how much I love my bag. All those little pockets and straps inside! You can carry a wallet, coins, pen nibs, a sketchbook, two bottles of wine, and so much more!

And, it's kinda big, but the sides are rigid! Plus, NO ONE ELSE HAS ONE BUT OLD LADIES WHO QUILT!

Just one: a woven Tibetan bag from Nepal, made by a family living on the old trade route in Helambu. I keep camera stuff in there.

interro, you mentioned something about a bag, maybe? Tell us a little about it. ; >

Handbags and bags are my weakness. : ) Right now I'm using things from my Vera Bradley collection. I use this as my work bag:

I love that interrobang would fit right in at an old ladies' quilting bee. That's super cool.

1 Gray Brooklyn Industries bag (technically on loan from someone).
1 Green Jansport backpack for groceries.
1 Black Leather bag (back-up bag for work).

Not bags, but I have a portfolio briefcase that I haul around regularly as well as one metal gray tool box that gets some travel, and one plastic gray toolbox that stays at home.
