Who won? And who would you select?
I'm still sifting through them. There some great ones in there so far though.

I'm confused by the time zone nonsense. Which ones are eligible? The last entry I have for 1 August is the Maunsell sea-forts.

EST, no? So vaca's The Rainmaker is the last one of the day.

This x-filesish one was the first of the day

August 1st was last Tuesday for you in New Zealand, no? ; >

Cheers amberglow. I will diligently sift through them all when I get home...

Even more confusingly: I'm in Melbourne which is in Australia's EST zone...

Starts at Cornershop to Gender War and still going for another 1.5 hours for me.

Too many to tell. Why don't people have this approach to metafilter every single day?

Oh, yeah. 25 bucks. Geez.

I don't think it was the prize.

I think it was the fun and the community aspect more than anything; it was just a nice idea that people got behind. The very best thing was to see that this community thing can still happen on MeFi. Seriously. It really cheered me up.

(of course, metatalk really brought me down. le sigh.)

yeah it's been a great front page! and i still havent checked out all the links.

taz, if you keep sighing in French no one will take you seriously. Russian, maybe, since the Russians are more stoic in general, but the French, well sighing is like breathing to them, eh? ;>

What a great day it was, and I agree with taz, I think the contest just sort of woke people up.

I've long been puzzled by the mystery of "good" in this consensus reality. Now we have an exemplar day.

I'm still puzzled, by the way.

There were a bunch of goodies!
The Maunsell seafort, Don Justo's cathedral were excellent and I liked the brick oven one for practical esotericism but of the ones I checked out (damn, I feel bad I didn't get through them all and I know it will all slip slowwwlllly away) I'm absolutely convinced that LeeJay's Manuscript/Rare Books from Yale wins hands down just because of the amazing depth - there's thousands of front page posts in there. Just extraordinary. That't not only the best of the web - that's the best the world has to offer.

Thank you very much LeeJay. I may never get out of there. 2c
