Another weird dream... [More:]I dreamed that I moved to New York City, to the way way way upper East side...like...190th street, or something. And there was an apartment building there, and everyone in the apartment building was a member of MetaFilter. We had our own building, just for us. I walked up the marble steps and opened the glass door leading to the foyer of the first floor, and the first door on the right had a large gold nameplate in the middle of it, that said MATTEO on it, in all uppercase letters. Underneath that it said Certified Public Accountant. The door was really ornate and heavy, and painted in a sort of fleshtone bandaid color. I remember being very impressed by it.

I walked to the second floor, because that's where my apartment was. I saw a door that said amberglow on it - he had written his name using a sharpie on white paper, and had stuck it over the brass nameplate. The door next to his had my name on it, and as I was walking up to it, DaShiv appeared out of nowhere and kept taking pictures of me, which really made me mad. I covered my face with the hood of my sweatshirt, and told him to leave me alone. Amberglow and jonmc and dame and languagehat were all there in the hall, standing in a line, waiting to go to a cafeteria or something. I remember thinking it was funny that everyone used their usernames on their doors instead of their real names. Everyone kept asking me who I was but I wouldn't tell them that I was iconomy - I was embarrassed to say who I was, although I'm not sure why. I kept the hood over my face.

I kept waiting for Matteo to come out of his apartment, but he never did. Suddenly I was in the cafeteria line too, right behind jonmc, who kept asking who I was. He told me that I had to get out of line if I wasn't a member of metafilter. Then jonmc turned into my husband, and he stood in front of me in line, and kept making weird, ugly faces at me. So rude!
And the cafeteria sucks, too - except on Pizza Wednesdays!

But did your door have a brass nameplate on it?
posted by gaspode 01 August | 12:11
Ooo what a good question! I meant to mention that, too. No, mine was paper and a sharpie, just like amberglow's. Matteo's was the only door with name on it that seemed permanent, that I recall looking at, although there may have been others. I hope that doesn't mean that amberglow and I are getting banned...

Maybe the paper was hiding your sock-puppet's username.

Somebody really needs to do a systematic analysis of all these dreams...

That's easy. The dreamers are all impressed with my good looks, relentless charm, and raw sexuality, duh!

jonmc, you beast. why would you be mean to iconomy?

jonmc, you beast.

There it is again!

posted by jonmc 01 August | 14:31
Yeah, why ya hatin' on me, jonmc?? Why you gotta be so sexy and charming and handsome??

What do you think of this? Sarah Rue lost weight and dyed her hair blonde. I thought she was sooooo pretty with her red hair.
posted by iconomy 01 August | 14:42
I liked the chubby redheaded Sarah Rue better. She was scrumptious.

Also, I having great difficulty wrapping my mind around the image of matteo as an accountant.

(broken link there, ico.)

I feel somehow deprived of dreamtime fun, since I don't think I've ever dreamed of MeFi. Either that, or I'm just very healthy.

The sign on my door would probably have a pseudo-phonetic spelling (me-three-deeya)taped underneath it.
posted by me3dia 01 August | 14:55
Here's a better link for those who can't see the other one.

me3dia, are you implying that I'm unhealthy!? Maybe I am...this is the third Meta-related dream that I've had... ;) In all of the dreams I've had so far, I know what all of the people I'm dreaming about look like, having seen photos of them all on flickr or somewhere else. What would really be weird would be dreaming about people I've never seen - giving faces to the faceless.
posted by iconomy 01 August | 15:19
I'm not necessarily saying you're unhealthy. I'm not sure what I was really saying. Just ignore me.

I'm dreaming about look like, having seen photos of them all on flickr or somewhere else.

Has there been a thread of MeFi portraits yet? Considering we know how (many of us) sound, maybe that's the next step.

I did that last night, iconomy. I dreamt a bunch of Sportsfilter people were in my big upstairs room and we were trying to do a fantasy football draft with pencil and paper. I was shouting "Dallas Clark? Is Dallas Clark still available?" And trying to fill up bowls of potato chips. Scary.
posted by rainbaby 01 August | 15:29
me3dia, I was just teasing you - I don't care either way, ya silly. Just pretending to be indignant, I was. Cool idea about the portraits. Something tells me naxosaxur won't be interested in it, though... ;)

Listen to me - I don't even have any photos of myself online! I'd like to say it's because I'm trying to cultivate an air of mystery but it's really because I'm just not all that attractive. Which totally explains my aversion to cameras and the hood over my face in the dream...hee. Although I like the "sock puppet" explanation better.

rainbaby, who was in your dream? Have you seen photos of them or did you imagine what they looked like?
posted by iconomy 01 August | 15:34
That's what I meant, they were "sportsfilter people" and they were in my house, but they were strangers. I haven't seen pictures of them. I've seen a picture of rcade (who runs the site), I guess, but he wasn't in the dream. One was "Dano" (Danosuporstar), but I didn't put any other made up people with names from the computer. I'm pretty comfortable that it says more about my interest in football than my interest in casual strangers on the computer, but I have dreamt of computer people I have seen pictures of before and e-mail frequently. I'm sure it's normal. Or else that wasn't an apt. building in your dream, it was an institution.
posted by rainbaby 01 August | 15:48
See now, I don't think it's weird that I have dreams about ppl that I've never seen. I always have dreams about my friends, but the person in my dream often doesn't look like my friend, but I *know* it's them. Same thing here. I can even remember what the mefites looks like in my dreams. It's gonna be disconcerting if I ever see what y'all look like.

Last night I created a cool finger food.

Take a Garlic Butter flavored ritz cracker, squirt on some sweet-hot mustard, throw on a slice of pepper jack cheese, spread some hot chopped pickled peppers and put a hunk of kosher salami on top.

Have beer handy.

maybe you secretly want your pictures online? (altho i'm not that thrilled with it, esp since i'm a psycho magnet lately)

Linda's Margarita

Juice of one lime
Juice of 1/4 orange
1 1/2 oz. Tequila
1/2 oz. Blue Curacao

Shake with ice and strain into salt-rimmed glass. It will be aquamarine. Garnish with orange wheel for contrast.

Next time, I'm going to chill the shaker beforehand and increase the Tequila to 2 oz.

i was attacked by a centipede last night
as i was finishing 'arry potter
the thing crawled upon my pillow as i was about to lay down my head
much catching and flushing ensued
handspan bastard

centipede attack!!! that sounds traumatic beyond measure. do you think it will live in the sewer, growing to enormous proportions on a diet of alligators and radioactive waste?
posted by nomis 01 August | 20:24
between warbaby's cocktails and my hors d'ouvres (what's a drink without a nosh?) we got us a coktail party...
posted by jonmc 01 August | 20:35
I have grand marnier and lots of vodka and various juices.

And beer.
posted by gaspode 01 August | 21:34
that's uncanny jonmc: I just sent out a party invitation with the subject line "nosh nosh, gargle gargle, yak yak"
posted by nomis 01 August | 21:37
On reflection, perhaps it's not that uncanny after all. I just love the word nosh and appreciate seeing it used.

So for a more constructive contribution: don't you think centipede attack would be a great name for a cocktail?
posted by nomis 01 August | 21:40
I'm trying to imagine what would be in that cocktail, nomis
posted by gaspode 01 August | 21:41
i made it
it's lipton sweetened lemon iced tea with orange juice and consumer grade tequila

i was going to call it a three mile island iced tea
posted by ethylene 01 August | 21:48
It would have a bite at the beginning and a sting at the end. And be very runny.
posted by nomis 01 August | 21:49
it's got legs
posted by ethylene 01 August | 21:49
yeah... y'all aren't selling me on this, so much
posted by gaspode 01 August | 22:00
oh man this gives me a great cocktail idea ... a variation on the old favourite monkey killer:

¾ pint of Guinness
top up with cider
drop in a shot of tequila

I shall call it the matador de monos.
posted by nomis 01 August | 22:06
this is pretty much like a weird cider
it's pseudocider
posted by ethylene 01 August | 22:12
Fool's cider even.
