Madness songs in commercials --why all of a sudden?
"Our House" for Maxwell House, and i just saw "It Must Be Love" in a car commercial.
i noticed that the other day too, it must be love...
i'm continually torn because some songs i hate they're abuse of and others i can't help but like anyway because i get to hear them.
that was a huge pink moon conflict.
and this mortal coil's cover of time buckley in a drugstore perfume ad
what really struck me about that one was that it really was them, and not crappy studio people imitating them. The Maxwell House one i like because it's the real people singing (like that "If I had a Million Dollars" lotto ad).
There was an ad for a finance company with the theme of "Bittersweet Symphony"... "it's a bittersweet symphony, this life: try to make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die"
that's a bit ironic ... doncha think?
the big star cover bugged me but i'm glad they didn't use the real one for that 70's show
see? torn
it use to be old 50's atlantic r&b and am radio, now anything is up for grabs
squeeze?
let's leave coldplay at rest a bit, everyone
Squeeze would be great, but i haven't seen anything with their stuff yet--maybe they don't need the money--or don't want new generations to only know their stuff thru commercials? (i hope)
they were in a few, burger king and such, i think
of course they need the money
they all need the money
not everyone's mom made liquid paper
they are targeting us directly
and the people in position to make those choices are our age
Squeeze would be great, but i haven't seen anything with their stuff yet
"Pulling Mussels From a Shell" would be great for red lobster. I'm just saying.
I have mixed feelings about obscure songs in commercials. I remember when mitsubishi used the Faces "Ooh, La La," it's lousy that it's used to sell cars but if it gets people to investigate the faces, thats great.
and the people in position to make those choices are our age
I know! i like that part. when they first started using eighties stuff and stuff only ppl around my age would know, i was all excited--we're finally in charge!
I prefer Peter Griffin's rendition of "Rock Lobster."
Actually, the B-52's were one of the bands that made me realize that not everything labled "new wave," was synth-pop tripe. Fred Schneider had the same affection for 50's and 60's rock and roll and pop culture that I do, god bless him.
To me, Milla Jovovich is always gonna be Pickford's girlfriend from Dazed & Confused getting stoned and hypnotized by her lighter flame. Screw all that modeling shit.
At this point, is there a company that hasn't used "Lust For Life" in a commercial? On the one hand, I'm glad Iggy's making a little money for a change, but it's really distressing to hear music I love in commercials. The last few shreds of respect I had for Pete Townshend (and I had a lot of respect for him at one point) were lost when I heard "Happy Jack" being used to pimp Hummers.
Actually, Madness did a series of car commercials (for Honda, I think) in Japan back in their early days -- they adapted a couple of their own songs for the adverts ("I'm Driving In My Car" is the one I remember in particular).

And yeah, amen to that. I used to really adore Pete. *sniff*
