Anyone here good with colors? I'm repainting a room on the lower floor of my house. My wife wants to give it some color other than a boring off-white.→[More:]
This room is mostly used as a TV room and workout room. It doesn't get a whole lot of light, though it has a couple of windows. The couch is tan, and the wood is light. Right now we're pondering Macadamia or brick. I'm favoring Macadamia, but the wife thinks it's a little dull.
it's really hard to say without knowing what color furniture is, or the height of the room, etc.
go for color
it makes an amazing change for the least cost or effort
but if you're going to make the effort, give it a think.
if you have lots of buff metal or black you want minimize the starkness or go for it.
actually, i suggest that you have the screening wall/tv area a darker color to blend away to make the room seem less like a multitasked room for when you wanna watch a movie.
Hey, would the idea of covering one (or two) of the walls with some really funky wallpaper and the rest in a nice bright white, work for you guys? Because I've seen that trick really transform rooms.
I would go the brick, but my taste has been described as questionable. What about trying a tool something like this? You can fiddle with the scheme and then either find the closest match in the brand you want, or most paint shops should be able to scan a colour chip and reproduce exactly what you want.
You could ask them to scan the cat if you decide to run with taz's idea.
I would go with brick/terra cotta with a faux painting technique (stippling, a plastic bag, a special sponge, etc) to give it depth and interest. Everything you need to know or buy is probably at a hardware store near you - video how tos, free classes...the works, although I don't know exactly where you live, so I'm just speculating. We did a room with terra cotta that looked exactly like leather...aged leather. It was pretty damn gorgeous.
The tealish color that taz used is wonderful as well. We have that in our upstairs and downstairs hall areas and I never get tired of looking at it.
I like the colour taz chose. But if you're set on using that colour line, try Canyon instead of Brick. It's a few shades lighter but it should add some nice colour.
please, you've picked the magnolia and terracota of UK diy horror shows.
i am all for feline design of course, but remember they can only see blue and green at best.
really, pale cold colors don't make things feel airy so much as sterile.
