Shopping the MeChat shop idea: so the kids and cats and farts among us want a store to call our own. I wanted to talk to PsychoKitty about her cottage industries as well-- so let's all talk shop: Meh O'Clocks? Shirts? Mugs? Candles? Dream it and we'll make it come--
dirty!

I want a glittery pink t-shirt with a bunny on it. And maybe a rainbow.

Cocktail bitters. Orange bitters. Quinine bitters. Our own brand.

How about bitter misanthropy? With bunnies?

I've got a brand of this all my own, but I might be willing to co-brand it.

All of the above.

Warbaby is right fucking on!

Bitters don't even count as alcohol for the purposes of selling, as they're required to be so bitter you can't drink them straight.

no cigarettes with special insignia?
has no one read atlas shrugged?
heh.
meh.
posted by ethylene 19 July | 20:21
i've spent the last ten years or so trying to forget about atlas shrugged, ethylene. thanks for that.

oh, and i just lost the game, damn it.

also, i make bitters. it's very good. especially in sazeracs.
posted by soi-disant 19 July | 20:41
soi-disant--recipe? any specific variety? (I thought Peychaud's bitters were de rigueur in sazeracs?)
posted by kenko 19 July | 20:47
hah, soi, it's part burned in my brain from a mew york summer laundry room, trapped by flaming gas dryers
posted by ethylene 19 July | 21:12
kenko -- i've done a couple of different styles, most recently orange bitters. approximate recipe is:

alcohol (i've been using a polish spirit, but any grain alcohol will do)
orange rind
star anise
cardamom pods
caraway seeds
coriander seeds
cinnamon sticks

steep stir strain etc.

and yeah you are supposed to use peychaud's in sazeracs. i'm just naughty and i like to experiment.

i'm also looking into making absinthe right now. i'll let you know how it goes. maybe i'll label it metachabsinthe. enough wormwood will probably make me see bunnies anyway.

SO, i'm thinking shirts and mugs first.
Cafepress is cool for being easy in a lot of ways but the mark up sucks.
posted by ethylene 19 July | 23:35
Um, who me? I make soap...we could see about having a custom mold made, or a stamp with a MeCharacter on it. ;) I'm sure I could find a bunny mold, there's bound to be some out there.

I could make Dead Sea "Slinging Mud" for everyone. (Hee.)

Or "Stinging Retort" Bath Salts.

"I got your back" massage oil?

A peroxide "Brain Scrub" when exposed to icky things?

Hee.

heh, i'd love to know some of your candle recipes.
i'm trying some different herbal blends
and i like how some candles heat particles in the wax so it's like a subtle sparkly thing in the molten wax
obviously for that step before full blown pyro

I think I may have found something better than CafePress.

There's Spreadshirt who have outlets in Europe and America so we can set a store up in both countries selling the same goods and therefore reducing shipping. And they can print on colours other than white! Yay!

Here's the UK shop:
http://www.spreadshirt.net/

And here's the US one:
http://www.spreadshirt.com/

The selections seem to be slightly different but I'm sure we can work around that.

Actually, Lulu is better for books. But I see where you're going, and I like it.

Lulu is the best we've found for books. If anybody knows a better, I'd really like to hear it.

Oh, I don't make candles. Insurance companies get very hostile towards home based businesses where flame is part of the operating plan. ;) I buy my candles from a local candlemaker.
