Secret Agent man greyed into Edward Longshanks. I find it impossible to separate Patrick McGoohan from his early TV work.[More:]I'm sure there are those who see (the original) Ben Kenobi in Our Man in Havana, too. Do any actors have indelible part-associations for you?
Peter Weller and Buckaroo Banzai. What's Buckaroo doing as Robocop? Where's Perfect Tommy?

Funny you mention the Hong Kong Cavaliers. I have trouble seeing Ellen Barkin as anyone but Penny Pretty.

Ooooh! Ellen Barkin. I named one of my cats Penny Priddy. And the other is Buckaroo.

She was sooooo cute with glasses in Big Easy.

Sorry to further derail, but 'Siesta', anyone? Five minutes into that film, images of Penny Pretty had been burned away.

'Priddy', damnit, 'Priddy'. It might be a coffee day, after all.

It's not Pretty? This is upsetting news. Disillusionment has set in, about as keenly as it did when I learned that, in Rock Lobster, Fred wasn't singing "Everybody had magic towels."

Goodbye, childhood. Goodbye forever.

Hugs, Hugh, you can come sit by me.

warbaby, exactly. She made me proud to be a woman in that movie. YOW!

Since we're totally derailed already, was Siesta based on some classical literature that I'm totally ignorant of? It really felt that way, but I haven't read much in the classics.

Orpheus and Eurydice?
posted by Hugh Janus 19 July | 14:38
Like from Eurydice's viewpoint? I dunno. Black Orpheus plays it different, but it's all Orpheus' viewpoint.
posted by warbaby 19 July | 14:54
Right, as if it was Woman Orpheus.

It's been compared to Jacob's Ladder, too.

Kinda reminds me of the part in Gilgamesh when he tries to rescue his buddy Enkidu from death after Enkidu whacked the Bull of Heaven, incurring heavenly wrath.

But then, so does the Orpheus legend, and countless others. The whole Egyptian journey through the Netherworld smacks of Sumerian influence.

Ohohoh! I forgot to mention my favorite role-association actress: Barbara Feldon aka Agent 99 from "Get Smart".

Dear God, I so wanted to be her when I grew up!
