Permanent Metachat Audioblog? Ethelyne had a great idea and I thought I would run it by everyone to see what they thought before I started working on it.[More:]

Seanyboy's audio thread was a great success, with Metachatters from all over adding their voices. Ethelyne suggested using my audioblog as a permanent archive for all of the audio posts. All links to recordings in that thread would be added to the audioblog to keep them together. That way they would all be in one place. It could also be made into a sort of repository for any future audio recordings Metachat members might want to make. If anyone wanted to use it all they'd have to do is email me for the info and they could record audio messages to their heart's content (as long as they're under five minutes long).

If no one objects I could have it up and running by tomorrow night most likely. If it took off, I thought maybe it could eventually become an archive of all the audio posted to Metachat: voice recordings, songs, etc. Thoughts? Suggestions? Objections?
Is this possible without a telephone? Like, with just mp3 files?

I mean, is there somewhere that hosts--easily, I mean!--mp3 files, a la flickr? I have recently been 0wnzored by steve_at_sweet-valley_high, and don't know the internets very well.

I'm not sure if there's a service for that. I'd be happy to host them at my site if you like, though, depending on how many of them there are.

AE-Stor (Intended for Fark Audioedits) offers up to 20mb of storage for mp3 files. Might be useful.

I like this idea a lot.

Seems like BlogSpot would work just fine -- or is there a limit to the amount of stuff you can store there?

Not any limits that I know of. I could put it up on my site but then audioblogger wouldn't work. I think it's probably the best bet, especially for people who want to record new voice greetings.

the only problem i could see is if blogger goes down, the site is down. so maybe we want to host it elsewhere at some point. i have my own recent additions on one of my blogs, but when one removes the post, the audioblog remains. not sure what the dealie-o is up with the audioblogger but it is not always up and still new (the long distance charge is unmanageable for most, although i'm thinking about getting MEH calling cards, cross fingers and shush).
i like the idea (of course) but eventually we may have to host it somewhere. for now, i think just assembling the links makes it easy for people.
if people can host their own mp3s it lessens the burden and can be linked. for those of us without the right mics and software in the US the audiblog is tolerable and somewhat obfusticating (that part would be for me of course)

dodgygeezer mentioned putfile as space up to 10mg for video. i have no idea what our space and time continuum issues may be as of yet but i'm hoping some MEH o'clockers will eventually help or band together, sustain ourselves as it were, possibly just to acquire our secret dormant volcano hideout.

I could host it on my own site and the add the audioblogger posts if people wish to use it. Maybe for now, if no one has any objections, I'll gather all the audio posts from seanyboy's thread at the BlogSpot blog and then work up a section of my site for a more permanent housing if it comes to that.
