Road Trip Mr. deborah and I are going on a road trip in a few weeks. We're driving from our abode to Edmonton and, possibly, Calgary. I'm hoping to make a side trip to Lake Louise/Banff. Anyway, me being me, I did a Google image search for images of Lake Louise. Then I looked for old postcards of Lake Louise. That search brought me here (scroll down). I followed the link at the bottom to more and more and more old postcards. And as they would say in Quebec - tres cool! Then I clicked on the site map. Holy cow on a crutch. There are tons of vintage postcards at this site. Truly, for us old postcard freaks, a treasure trove.

I have a big ol' box of old postcards. I'm a real sucker for the ones that have been mailed. Here's my favorite:

Dearest Friend:~

Have mailed you today copy of New York Telegraph of last Monday which has news item about Jack. It is on page seven. I have marked it with blue pencil. I know how you feel because of Jack's death. For nearly a year now I have had the blues since my little Fox Terrier passed along to dog heaven. He and I took our night constitutional along the path shown in Boston Common on opposite side for nearly 11 years. Since his death I haven't been near the Common.

Signed Mrs. J.E. Priest

Doesn't that just kill you?

One day when I'm in NYC, I want to find a copy of the NY Telegraph article (obit?) in question.

Bittersweet, mudpuppie. You'll have to share the obit if you ever find it.

How I love old postcards. Thank you.

If you haven't done this before, the drive between Banff and Jasper is one of the most spectacular roads in the world. I would absolutely recommend it.

Oh, fantastic, thanks! I love to do these weird compositions with bits and pieces of things, sort of a "salvage art" thing...and I almost always want vintage postcards. Printing them from the computer would work, I think, assuming I was doing some aging and whatnot on the paper. You rock!

Speaking of postcards, art and angst, have you guys seen PostSecret? Warning...it may or may not be safe for work, and I dunno about other people, but sometimes, the postcards make me weepy.

I think PostSecret was linked to in the blue. So, um, yes! I love the site.

And thanks for the kudos, y'all.
